How's the medical field?
I will be moving to Ohio from Ocala, Fl. somewhere around May of 2007 now. I am wondering about the area hospitals near Millersburg and how they are? I have been watching the employment sites for Wooster hospital, Dover's hospital, Coshocton, and Mansfield. I am most curious as to the length of drive from Lake Buckhorn area to these places, especially in the winter. How are the roads kept up? It's been 27 yrs. since I've driven in snow and ice and I don't want to end up stuck!! If anyone works at one of these hospitals could your please comment on your workplace? I'm all ears! I have checked into the hospital in Millersburg and it's only a 30 bed hospital. I don't think I will find anything there that will excite me. I work in the lab now as a phlebotomist/shift leader. I do alot of my work on the com****r, accessioning specimens, overseeing that the phlebs are doing their jobs etc.

I can't speak for much but I can tell you that it is a 30 minute drive from Millersburgh to Wooster.
I've had not had any medical concerns since I've been here so no help there. Heck, I just got my medical insurance changed over and still have to find a family doctor and dentist for me and my boys.
I haven't experienced the roads during inclement weather yet so I'm looking foward to someone answering this one too.
My opinion though is that of the areas you listed, you'll probably have the best chances in Wooster or Dover (based on city size).
If you move to the Wooster area, I'll buy you your first cup of coffee here. Well as soon as I find the local coffee shop. :-)
Good luck.

The medical field in NE Ohio and Central Ohio is booming right now. You might want to check into the New Philly/Dover area or Wooster. If you need the bigger cities, Akron/Canton is only about a 30-45 minute drive.

r2r Thank you for your info. I have Dover hospital and Wooster on my favorites list so I check them regularly. I just can't wait to get there. I am so over Florida. My husband was just up there in Millersburg for Christmas and his "job" was to find a spot on Lake Buckhorn for us to build our house. Mission was successful and hopefully construction will start about April or May. We are so short staffed where I'm at now that they are about to kill us with overtime. Mandatory overtime even. I'm averaging 25-30 hrs. per pay period. I look forward to making new friends there. If you find the coffee shop make sure they have good pastry too!

paintballer 1708..... Got your info and will check these out. Which is closer New Philly or Dover or are they about the same? (to Millersburg). I'm taking online classes full time and should have my B.S. degree in about 3 yrs. It's tough going back to school after all these years! But it'll help the job searching. I love working in hospitals. It's an ever-changing situation there. Not some ho-hum job same everyday stuff. Thank you for your help, will call on you in hte future as more questions pop up!! Happy New Year!!

I'm not sure of your distance from Lake Buckhorn to Columbus but you might want to look into the VA Medical Centers as well.
They always need phlebotomists.
I was offered that position at the Pittsburgh VA Medical Center some years ago but declined. I am a Veteran and enjoy talking with Veterans but I prefer to work with animals.

Lu Ann, great to hear the wonderful news that you can build your new home in NE Ohio. My wife works in the medical field as well. Before we moved to Cincinnati she worked for The Heart Center of NE Ohio. She loved her job. I speak in personal experience when i say the medical field in NE Ohio is booming. It really helps with Cleveland and Akron. Not only has the Cleveland Clinic helped the area out greatly, but Akron has some amazing hospitals as well. Akron actually has been voted to have one of the best burn units in the country. In fact my wife's office that she worked in at her office park was demolished to build a bigger more modern and efficent one because of the growth in the medical field up there.
Once again i wish you the best in your move back up to Ohio, and i hope everything goes well. If you have anymore questions, please feel free to ask.

r2r and paintballer1708, Thanks for the input. I think or I've been told that Columbus is about 1 1/2 hrs away. That would be a bit far. I'm sure I'll find something but it's a bit early for me to look right now because I get to stay in Florida till the house sells while my husband starts his job in April. Yippee Skippy!! My work now is trying to make me change my mind. I got an email last nite at work that the directer decided I was worth more money per hour so they hiked up my pay $1.00 per hr. My review is due in April. I wonder if they'll give me that raise too?! I have never known that place to give you a dime more unless it was review time. I'm flattered.....but I'm still moving!! I have started to train 2 girls for my job already. The accession room is a killer, lots of stress and lots of patience needed. I'm looking forward to a change!!!
