I'm glad you included all the historical markers.

Thanks Boardmanite! It's funny because the sun did come out later that day! We also had warm sunny weather for a week prior to that day and pretty much all this week. It's been beautiful! The ice cream truck has been by several times, people have been outside doing yardwork, and everyone has been wearing shorts. Unfortunately, i think it we may have some flurries in a couple days. Sure makes life interesting!

Wow great photo-tour. The Trumbull County Courthouse is one amazing piece of architecture. Warren has a nice quaint downtown too.

CortlandGirl,
Another triumph! I love the photos. I had no idea Warren had so much history. Those old mansions are incredibly beautiful, aren't they? Such wonderful architectural detail. I'll bet the interiors are awesome, as well. Makes me anxious to explore the city.

Thanks Toto! As you guys can probably tell, i love local history! I guess that's one of the reasons i am such a supporter of the Youngstown/Warren area. My parents always made sure we knew our history and I've just fallen in love w/it over the years. It doesn't hurt that i have a love of old houses.
It's frustrating to me when people don't take the time to learn about where they live. Warren was very progressive in the abolitionist and women's movement. Many very historically significant people are from this area. Not to mention, Warren was also the capital of the Connecticut Western Reserve, not Cleveland. Youngstown would later become the capital, but Warren was first. The Mahoning River Watershed - Warren, Ohio
If anyone is interested i found the calendar for events being held in Warren this summer.
City of Warren, Ohio
Toto, if you are interested, the city usually has a tour of the homes on Mahoning Ave every summer and most autumn's they have a ghost walk where they tell ghost stories about many of these homes. The Perkins family had a lot of tragedy and those stories are included in the ghost walk. We are also lucky to have a local historian, Wendell Lauth that is a fountain of info. on local history. He does cemetery tours in both Niles and Warren and talks about all the famous, influential and important historical figures buried in those cemeteries.

Start Time: 2:00 pm
Location: Main Library; 444 Mahoning Ave

They also usually have tours during the Packard Car Show:

This leads me to the next part of my phototour. For those of you who don't know, The first Packard Automobile was built in Warren in 1899. Packard - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Packard family has been associated w/Warren since the 1850s when Warren Packard moved to Warren from Lordstown (there were also family members in Austintown). He owned several businesses in town, including a hardware store on Courthouse Square. His sons started The Packard Electric Company and The Packard Motor Company. If you drive around town you will still notice the legacy they left behind in Warren.
As most of you know, i previously worked for Delphi Packard Electric, formerly Packard Electric Division of General Motors. So, i do have a special interest in both companies and the family. Sadly, Packard will soon fail to exist in Warren, but it has grown into a worldwide division of Delphi and wiring harnesses, terminals, and plastic parts are now made all over the world w/the Packard name.
This is the current division of Packard Electric, renamed Delphi Electrical/Electronic Architecture for Automotive Manufacturers
Pretty sad that most of these products used to produced and were engineered in Warren.

In the early 70s Packard Electric employed around 15,000 people in the Warren area.
When i was hired in 1999 there were 6,500 hourly employees, plus probably 2,000 salary.
After buyouts and retirements in 2006 there are now less than 1000 hourly (only around 650 stayed, maybe 300 or so hired at $10/hr) and maybe 1200 salary left.
The administration building on Dana St., now empty.......
I believe this is plants 3 and 5 on Dana St. and i also believe the 1st Packard Car was made someplace in this area, perhaps behind or inside one of these plants.
Plant 8 on Griswold St. This plant has floors that are several feet thick and according to my dad, this plant used to be part of the Norton Bomb Group that made sights for B-17 bombers during WWII. While it was Packard, they made ignition wiring harnesses and plastic resin here.

Besides the empty plants on Dana St. and Griswold, most of North River Rd. is now empty.
Most of this massive complex is in Howland Township w/Plants 14 and 15 in Bazetta township.
The engineering building, still in use on NRR
Plant 14- they made sensors and wiring harness subasseblies.............now empty
Medical
Plant 15, where i used to work making battery harnesses for GM vehicles, how empty........
