Default Lorain area

I am looking to buy a house and trying to decide where I want to move. I currently live in Cleveland so I think anything would be better.

I am looking in Parma but I also want to look in Elyria and Lorain.

Can any one tell me anything about Lorain. What is good or bad. Some of the areas I am looking at are Palm Avenue, West 10th, E29th.

In Elyria I am going to look on a street called Garvin

Any info would be appreciated.

I grew up in both Elyria and Lorain so I know a lot about these cities. Those areas that you are talking about are definitely not the best in the cities. I guess it depends on how nice you want the neighborhood to be and where you currently live in Cleveland.

For those locations in Lorain, Palm Ave. is okay depending on how far down you are, but its not the best. West 10th is pretty nice, its not the best in the city but its in one of the nicer areas near downtown, if its west of Oberlin ave it should be nice. East 29th is one of the worst areas of Lorain. It depends on what part of East 29th you are talking about, but no areas of it are that nice, The farther away from Globe Ave. the better.

For Elyria, Garvin Ave. is one of the bad areas of the city. Its not a ghetto or anything like that but its close to a lot of decay and right next to the tracks and factories.

I dont know as much about Sheffield Lake. That address is on a main rd though and its right on the lake. I would say that location is better than any of the other places you said.

For Lorain, Central Lorain is the worst area (basically the whole area around 17th and Reid). Part of South Lorain is also bad around E29th and Globe and the whole area around that. West, Southwest, and East (accross the bridge) are all mostly nice. Also part of southeast area of south lorain is nice.

For Elyria, the Southside (south central, 6th street south, between the river branches) is the worst area. Also the Southwest side isnt nice. The westside has a couple not so good areas, but nothing too bad. The nicest areas are the Northeast side and most areas of the east and southeast side. The far westside is pretty nice too. Overall, Elyria is much nicer and looks better than Lorain, but Lorain does have some beautiful areas.

I own a couple of rental properties in Lorain, and I only look in certain areas I feel are safe (and have low maintenance housing) - I would not buy a house on E 29th. For Palm Ave it would depend on the block - generally the higher the house number the better. For W 10th the same applies - I would only look west of Oberlin Ave (house numbers above 1200) and ideally close to Lakeview Park.

However, that Sheffield Lake house is far better than the others you've mentioned - the school system is much better than Lorain or Elyria, and there's less crime. The only downside is the busy road.

please forgive me but I am not good with directions.

How about:
139 Stanford, Elyria, OH 44035

any help would be appreciated. I am looking at Elyria and Lorain and North Ridgeville. I am not that great when it comes to north, south, and all. how are the schools. Maybe if I do a search by school district when I am looking at homes. What is the schoold districts for these.

I dont know why, its pretty simple. South Lorain is labeled on most maps, and its actually SouthEast Lorain. The Eastside of Lorain is across the bridge from downtown. The Westside is a broader term, but when most people use it they mean the farther westside, and SW side of the city. Central Lorain is right in the middle, to near west. For Elyria its easier. Most people will be more specific with Elyria. Just remember that the southside is actually south central, south of downtown from 6th street between the river branches, and sometimes refers to the far SW side too.

Stanford is on the Eastside of Elyria and thats in one of the nicest neighborhoods in the city, or the nicer neighborhoods.

For the school districts it kind of depends on the specific school that you would be going to in the district. But overall North Ridgeville is a good school district, Sheffield is good, Elyria is not that good, and Lorain is pretty bad right now.

Hamilton Ave. is great. Thats one of the nice and wealthiest neighborhoods in the city, and it just happens to be just north of downtown so you can walk there and the old library is right there. Its also very close to Elywood and Cascade park, and theres a ton of things to do there. Thats probably the best and most convenient area in all of Elyria.

Im not too sure about the First congregational church, I think thats downtown its probably nice.

Can anyone from or in the know about Lorain comment about a street Hawthorne...it seems to be close to the lake and relatively close to the park in the area?
