Funny how that post-WW2 deindustrialization does not affect Detroit's suburbs. Strange how the landscape immediately improves once you exit Detroit city limits.

Is this a joke? You're seriously insinuating that deindustrialization has only affected Detroit proper? So like, say in Highland Park/Hamtramck or River Rouge, things automatically get better simply because of an invisible border? Or are you talking about the "white flight" suburbs of the late-50's, 60's and 70's which just happened to coincide with the largest mass-scale loss of industry this country has even born witness to? But yeah, even though there was a Republican in office when the free-fall fuse was lit in the mid 50's, the problem only resides on one side of the fence. Get real.

I think you will understand a little more why those people vote the way they do.
It's a nice documentary, but the underlying reason they vote the way they do is because they are generally under-educated, gullible and, therefore, easy targets for hucksters like Trump. If you want to sell something frivolous, always aim for the LCD of society. He's a master at it - has been for decades.

MO used to be a bell weather state, not it is straight republican...so neither party fights too hard there. Ohio is going to become the same way unless Dems get their act together and get the voters in Cuyahoga, Franklin, Hamilton, Montgomery, Lucas, and Summit Counties to vote.
I guess you and I look at what is important a bit differently. What you are saying is that other states are either more or less predictable. What I'm saying is that Ohio, while less predictable than it used to, is still one of the top 5-10 prizes in any presidential election. Since both campaigns made numerous stops here with Biden's final push being on 11/2, I'd say they agree.

This may be too deep for you but there are many independent variables that plagued Detroit. Most of which have to do with auto manufacturers leaving.

By the same token -the most stagnant states - and those which have the lowest literacy are all REPUBLICAN - have you ever heard of Alabama- Mississippi- Louisiana.

Learn the difference between causation and correlation-- you certainly are no demographer.

To answer why Ohio went Republican is to look at its voters. Trump's main demographic is uneducated whites- high school or less and Trump swept them across the country ( Guess why). The better education a state has the more Democratic and anti Trump. Which states have the best colleges ? Mass -California - New York- maybe CT.

You must have an extreme case of cognitive dissonance if you're going to completely ignore redlining and intentional segregation of the city of Detroit, and the white-flight that occurred once those practices ceased.

You do realize thousands of people are still employed by the auto industry in southeast Michigan. Those people choose not to live or work in the city of Detroit.

Ann what have the Democrats in Detroit done since 1962 to fix the wrongs in the city of Detroit besides lining their own pockets? Democrats always say they are the job creators, so where are all these great jobs in the city of Detroit?

Yes, but. Automotive employment is a fraction of what it once was.

Yes they do. Start in downtown Detroit and drive north on Jefferson Avenue. Note the significant change for the better once you cross the border into Grosse Pointe.
