This Forbes report is based on an annual report of moves by United Van Lines. Strangely, Forbes notes of Ohio:

<< Ohio ranks second in FORBES’ quality of life metric thanks to low living costs, short commutes and a plethora of top-rate colleges and cultural and recreational opportunities.>>

<<Among the top inbound states were South Carolina (64%), Oregon (63%), South Dakota (62%) and Arizona (62%), while New York (67%), Illinois (67%), Connecticut (63%) and California (59%) were among the states experiencing the largest exoduses.>> Ohio's percentage of move-outs was 56.2%. United Van Lines says Ohio ranked number 9 in total 2020 move outs.

Click on Ohio in the map in the above press release. It shows that among 18- to 45-year-olds, a significantly larger percentage moved INTO Ohio. As these individuals were employing a moving company, I wonder if this had some something to do with climate change expectations, a much greater concern among younger Americans, especially those seeking a good place to raise a family. A large percentage of those citing family reasons for their move were inbound to Ohio. The outbound percentage was much higher for those citing retirement as a reason.

Also, the percentage of inbounds among survey respondents claiming incomes of $150,000 also was slightly higher than the outbounds.

I don't think anything useful can be taken from one company's statistics, nor a Forbes list.
