Wow! I understand all of the concerns voiced in these replies, but I figure I will give you a positive spin. Hold back hecklers. Ohio is a depressed state that may be lacking in education and culture in some areas. I'm not sure of a state that isn't. The best part about all of this is that Ohio is an open canvas ready for creatives to make it home and show the rest of the world what a beautiful place it is. The variety in people, cities, weather, activities, sports and its central location makes it prime real estate. A great investment. You have many major cities, a coast line, Great Lakes, entertainment - all within a stones throw.
If you really want to be adventurous ... look at the Salem/Canfield, Ohio area (preferably Salem). I’ll admit, the Canfield/Boardman area has become a Stepford community. Salem is in the middle of Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Akron, Canton and within a few hours of other major cities. It is within a 30 minute drive of downtown Youngstown and you will find a huge mix of people moving to the area because of its history (Underground Railroad, Alan Freed, multiple artists, and more). They want to live here for the peace and quiet and the culture that does exist.
I know of different couples that have recently moved into town from San Francisco, Chicago and Pittsburgh. They see the value and the possibilities and have built their businesses here. We have inevitable growth opportunities because of our location.
Now, if you want to move to an area that is a finished canvas and your input is lost - there are other states and other surrounding communities I could recommend. But, you sound like someone who is ambitious and creative that wants to grow and be a part of their community. I’d be happy to share a few creative projects that are moving forward, Web sites and people you could contact hear (that have recently moved to this area).
And on that uneducated note - this kills me - I’m sure you’ll find your critters here (as you will all over our nation), but the people that are born and raised here have different growing experiences, different backgrounds, different learning experiences ... their communication is different. Think about it. That’s why people move here - to get away from the rat race - to learn different cultures - to experience new ways of living. If you want to run into people that know everything you know - then stay where you are.

Ohioan there is no need for you to stop posting. Your information could be helpful for some people that are moving here. Truly your info was eye opening to me. Everyone on here in not even asking you to stop posting. You can still post we would just like to see positives for a change. Like i said the new residents that are coming to Ohio have come for a new oppurtunity. There are so many people moving to the Cleveland area from out of state and they love it here. They are the people that are shaping this area. As we look towards the future and our economy changes we try to make it better. A better place to live, raise a family, and just plain out have a good time. A great place you can call home. Like i said Ohioan there is no need for you to stop posting. Just make some threads and posts that are positive because i believe in Ohio. Just like down in Youngstown their one news channel that says "That they believe in their Valley" referring to the Mahoning Valley. I look at Youngstown today and what it was 30 years ago. The downtown is going through a major face lift. The Chevorlet Centre was built and they have a hockey team. And an Arena Football Team is coming to town last i heard. We just have to believe in Ohio. Thats what residents who have lived here their whole life and new residents believe in.

DMJK i was recently in the Youngstown area. We were checking out the downtown. And seeing what developments are going on in the city. It is amazing. The Youngstown area is changing so much. There were so many new housing developments going up across Youngstown. From the south side to the north and from the west to the east sides. I went to Boardman and the amount of development is crazy. From Canfield, Boardman, to Poland so much new development, let alone on 224. I remeber South Avenue being a two lane road. Now it has expanded to meet the traffic needs and all the new businesses along that road. Then we went to Poland to this restaurant called Inner Circle Pizza. Great food. Then this one girl walked in. She was filling out and application. I saw her car from the window that we were sitting at. She was from Ontario. So i figured she just moved to the Youngstown area from Ontario. Which shows Youngstown is becoming a very attractive area. Then we headed down south on Market Street in Boardman. I saw they were building a new hospital by the newly built YMCA which looked great. We then traveled to a small city called Columbiana. That town had so much development going on. The only sad thing about it was watching the farmland diminish. We went golfing at the new course called Firestone Links. Around the new golf course new houses and businesses were sprouting up everywhere. Then we got back in the car and as we were driving through the new development i saw lots of cars from PA and Michigan as they were moving into the new houses. I was amazed to see the amount of cars from PA in the Youngstown area. We asked alot of people from out of state what they were doing in Youngstown. We were suprised to hear alot of the people were looking into moving to the suburbs. Like Canfield, Poland, Boardman, Struthers, Niles, and Austintown. I guess Youngstown is changing for the better and the 600,000 people that are living in that metro are working hard at changing the cities image.

For a short period of time, I am going to start posting information on Ohio that I happen to come across. It seems that a number of viewers find the information that I’ve posted in the past helpful in one way or another.
Again, this information is generally not well known by the general public – but it has been published in newspapers, magazines and various reports.

Ok lets just not start with the negatives again. I voted that i found the information useful. But i did notice that you can come back in the next day and vote on it again. Im just wondering did you come back in and vote yes a whole bunch of times? Because i dont think that many people came in and read this thread. Just saying again lets not start with the negatives because you said you would stop and if you keep going again you are just proving yourself to be a liar. So lets hope it stopped and its good to see you back again. You havent posted in a while.

Paintballer1708:
1) This thread has had 2532 views so far (6/19/2006 AM) – so many, many people have read it.
2) According to the records, you actually voted AGAINST this thread, not for it.
3) I feel that the information that I found MUST be shared – if I was moving to Ohio I would want to know everything about it, not just filtered information. Remember, I did not make up the information contained in this thread. If you do not like what I found on this state, do not follow this thread so closely.
4) Out of 99 votes so far – yes, I accidentally voted for my thread ONCE – after you have voted once, it is impossible to vote again!
4) Please do not make or take this thread personally-- if you do, the moderator will close it down.

Oh Ohioan trust me on this one i am definatly not taking this thread personally. Lets not go back to what it use to be. Do you really want to close another thread? If you want to start up with the negatives go ahead and do it you would just be proving yourself to be a liar. There were numerous times when we ask you to stop. We even asked nicely and you agreed to stop. You even said you would stop posting on this forum. Why did you come back? Just asking? I mean i even said its nice to have you back. You never once said thank you. You just had to post what you wanted to. Without giving an explanation to everything the other person had said before. Since you have been gone i have been giving people information on where to live, what suburbs are better as far as being safe, better schools, etc. Some people gave different cities and i told them in my opinion which one would be better for them. Now lets not go back to the negatives again. I mean unless you want to close another thread. But i dont want that to happen.

I am going to stop posting on City-Data's forums starting after this last post -- I feel that many, many readers really do not want to hear what I found out about the state of Ohio. Of course there are good things about Ohio, but in my opinion, the negatives greatly outweigh the positives. I started collecting this "negative" information as a project due to all of the downbeat articles that were being written on the condition of Ohio. I was absolutely shocked to see so many of these types of articles being written in such a short period of time -- it was just amazing.
I have so much more to share, but maybe this is not the right place in which to do it. You are right; people on City-Data (including myself) want to hear good news on Ohio, not bad news. I can find bad news nearly everyday – I would like to hear something good for a change – something that can be verified by facts, not by someone’s opinion.
You clearly believe in Ohio – maybe you are a new breed of resident that can actually change this state for the better!
I am now asking the moderator of this forum to delete all of my posts in the next few days.

Yes, I do.
Like I stated above -- I feel that the information that I found MUST be shared – if I were moving to Ohio I would want to know everything about it, not just filtered information.
So, more information to come shortly.
