I'd go with Hunters Ridge....Lived there 1995-1996 while finishing up my degree at UT. If its still decently maintained I think its ideal....Fairly equidistant to UT and to the growing shopping/dining amenities in the Maumee area.

The Cloisters was nice once but I think it has gone downhill. Had friends that lived there 1991-1994 but what I've heard about it since isnt quite so good.

If you go to the east side and want to get something nice you have to go out far enough that its not as close to commute to UT. Entertainment options out there arent the greatest either...

Red face Toledo is Not Safe

I plan on visiting the Toledo area before making a decision about moving, and I would like to get some information about living arrangements, so I can make the most efficient use of my time while in the area.

Here are a couple of living options I have found:

- LaSalle Apartments (location sounds nice, but is this building clean/safe?)

- Lake of the Woods Apartments (Nice price, buildings look nice)

- Wood Ridge Apartments (spacious, washer/dryer in unit, more expensive than other options)

- Cloisters (look very nice, reasonably priced)

- Hunter's Ridge Apartments (VERY CHEAP, recently remodeled, look very nice but I have read many negative things about the area and the complex)

I own a vehicle and will have one in Toledo, but I would prefer something that is located within a reasonable driving distance of UT.

I would like to a find a place that is close to restaurants, bar/grill, tavern, etc. That is why LaSalle is appealing, because it is downtown. I am in my late 20s, so proximity to college bars and nightclubs isn't necessary, but it would be nice to be within walking distance, or a short drive, of a restaurant, bar, etc. so I can grab a beer/bite to eat on a Friday night without driving across town.

Safety is another concern. I own a new vehicle and I do not want to live in a neighborhood where it will be broken into or stolen if I leave it parked on the street. I am sure Toledo has its fair share of rough areas, like any other city.

Thank you very much in advance for any information you are able to share, it is greatly appreciated.

When you speak of not wanting to live in a neighborhood where your new vehicle will not be broken into, or stolen, you are not talking about Toledo.
It's great you are going to attend TU, but I am going to be honest with you, Toledo is anything but safe sir. The others here might feel like pulling your leg on that, but I wont. There once was a day it was, and you could walk anywhere without worry of being shot, mugged, robbed or killed. Not today. You mentioned Lake of the Woods. Thats out kind of in the country, although its been built up since I lived there. LaSalle, yes its downtown, and thick with crime. Trust me, do more research before you come here. Or There actually, I moved to Oregon, which is much better and not that far away. Good Luck to you.

Toledo is almost as bad as detroit it is terrable here i im trying to get out trust me you DO NOT want to move to toledo!

I have lived here my whole life and it is just getting worse and worse.

if you do decide to move here the west end is the best area.

or try a town just outside of toledo.

Rossford, swanton, perrisburg, or oregon,

if your looking for a good school try Bowling Green it is a nice place and they have a good college.

- LaSalle Apartments (location sounds nice, but is this building clean/safe?) Unless you want $300.00+ heating bills in the winter months, and there parking garage is a NIGHTMARE in the winter, I had my truck broken into 3 times while living there. I am a female and would not recommend living downtown.

- Lake of the Woods Apartments (Nice price, buildings look nice) I visited here, seemed really nice and so was the staff, just too small for my needs.

- Wood Ridge Apartments (spacious, washer/dryer in unit, more expensive than other options) no opinon

- Cloisters (look very nice, reasonably priced) Stay Away
- Hunter's Ridge Apartments (VERY CHEAP, recently remodeled, look very nice but I have read many negative things about the area and the complex) seemed ecent when I visited, walls seemed thin as I could here the TV in the other apt.

I own a vehicle and will have one in Toledo, but I would prefer something that is located within a reasonable driving distance of UT. UT has a commuter office located in the student union...UTILIZE them!!!

I would like to a find a place that is close to restaurants, bar/grill, tavern, etc. That is why LaSalle is appealing, because it is downtown. Unless you have a friend to walk with you at night I DO NOT advise this at night, I was followed home one night from getting take out at 9pm, I had to go into another establishment to call my fiance to come get me.

I am in my late 20s, so proximity to college bars and nightclubs isn't necessary, but it would be nice to be within walking distance, or a short drive, of a restaurant, bar, etc. so I can grab a beer/bite to eat on a Friday night without driving across town. I live 1.5 miles from campus and there are plenty of places to go close to Old Orchard, Ottawa Hills, Sylvannia; and you can cab it for less than 8 bucks one way (beats a DUI any day).

Safety is another concern. I own a new vehicle and I do not want to live in a neighborhood where it will be broken into or stolen if I leave it parked on the street. I am sure Toledo has its fair share of rough areas, like any other city. If you are smart and DONT leave anything of value in view on the seats you should be fine.

I live in Old Orchard and definitely like it. Like anywhere else though, there are still car break-ins. Thieves seem to like to target the neighborhood. There are some apartments here. The major complex is Kenwood Gardens. The rent is cheap so it definitely has its share of undesirables. My backyard backs up to the complex, and I have noticed some weirdos out there lately. There is another small complex near Central Avenue that looks nice. Shopping and restaurants are good. In walking distance to the neighborhood is a nice little Italian restaurant-Calvino's, a coffee house-Biggby's, plus the Westgate complex with a Chipotle, and a Starsucks.

I like the old west end too. It gets a bad reputation for being a high crime area, but I don't feel it is dangerous.

SCBeaches- The stein and pitcher/club college/rocket inn etc... have been closed for years now. That was a fun place to go and drink underage. I think that just about anything went there. The buildings have just sat empty. Too bad. It's prime property for a college bar. The Pig is a coffee shop now.

Hunter's Ridge caught on fire last night. Left about 100 people homeless.

I lived in Bowling Green for 10 years. It is only 20 minutes from Toledo. Maybe 30 to campus. You won't have to worry about crime at all. And there are apartments there that are for grad students only. So you don't have to deal with all the undergrad nonsense. Let me know and I can get you names of the places you would want to consider if moving to BG.

My sister lives near the I-75/I-475 interchange close to downtown Toledo in what many might classify as a "bad" area. She has never had any sort of problem with crime.

It's not really; my dad and I have gone out walking in the neighborhood late at night. It's actually pretty nice.

I'm a UT student. I had friends who lived at Cloisters and I could not recommend it to anyone. Their cars were broken into, one was robbed in the parking lot, between his townhouse and the dumpster. I lived at Hunters Ridge, you'd have to be alright with lower income neighbors but I never had any problems at all. Things worked out well, took 10 minutes to get to campus, never experienced anything negative, but the recent fire there would have a huge impact, and seeing how 200 people are out of their apartments, I doubt they have any openings.
