Really, Krugman looks at the candidates generally, but especially Vance.

Ohio’s GOP primary has, after all, been a race to the bottom, with candidates seemingly competing to see who can be crasser, who can do the most to dumb down the debate. Vance insists that “what’s happening in Ukraine has nothing to do with our national security” and that we should focus instead on the threat from immigrants crossing our southern border.
They’re happy to exploit white working-class resentment; but when it comes to doing anything to improve their supporters’ lives, their implicit slogan is, “Let them eat hate.”

This state better do the right thing for America and elect a Democrat, Tim Ryan to the Senate seat and help deny the GOP the chance to take over the Senate. That party is so UnAmerican and evil it doesn't deserve to ever be in power again.

You can’t be serious.

$4 gas, unaffordable groceries, invasion of the southern border, men competing in women’s sports. What a track record. LMAO!!!

The lack of self-awareness never ceases to amaze.

Much better than voting in racists who want to end women's right to choose, end my right to marry, and cut taxes for the wealthy who already don't pay their fair share, and want to white wash American History by banning teaching about slavery and Jim Crow.

That's rich accusing Republicans of distorting history about Jim Crow (which was mostly a Democrat thing), when the sitting Democrat president is wildly pushing a fairy tale wherein election reforms passed by elected state representatives amount to plunging the country into a newer, more hateful, more dangerous version of Jim Crow that, of course, can all be made to go away if you just pull the lever for the heroic and benevolent Democrats in the fall. What a laugh!

By the way, back on the topic of the thread, an actual "skeptical look at Vance" would address stuff that people other than DNC automatons actually might care about, for example, how does Vance fit into the vision of someone like Peter Thiel, who is funding his campaign?

Democrats were the segregationists who passed the Jim Crow laws, Sen. Byrd (D-WV) was in the KKK, the wealthy pay their fair share and then some, I have my returns to prove it. Taking down statues is “Whitewashing history” too.

No one is going to take away a woman’s right to choose, that’s just an impossible promise exploited to get votes, just like promising free ponies.

You have been watching MSNBC again, huh? How about looking at facts, instead of fear mongering?

All the Supremes are doing is correcting an amendment that they all feel does not belong in the constitution. It’s legal housekeeping. It has nothing to do with anything else. They think that abortion laws are up to individual states. They are right.

Your other concerns are in your own head.
Just for the record: this conservative is pro choice and doesn’t care if you want to marry your coffee table.
We don’t mind taxes, but we mind wasteful spending and too much government involvement in our lives.
We want history taught in schools...the good, bad and ugly, but we don’t want social engineering taught to our kids.

Who could possibly argue with that?

So it's JD Vance in a walk as the GOP nominee...

... just goes to show how backward, and dangerous, my home state has become.
