Default Where do you want to go this summer?

With the gas prices being what they are, many people will be taking shorter trips for their vacations. Why don't we tell everyone of a place close to home where you plan to go so others can hear of them too. I know we don't always think of the things close to home when we are planning activities. Be sure to indicate the general area of the state, so we know where to head.

We have a lot of places to visit here in the Northwest corner of the state, but one place we have never been, and maybe we can change that this year, is Sauder Farm and Craft Village just north of Archbold in Fulton County. Years ago an area industrialist, Erie Sauder, began gathering area historical buildings that were scheduled for removal and moved them to one site. It is kind of like Greenfield Village that Henry For created, only on a smaller scale, and it is all local history. Maybe this year is the year.

I used to love visiting the Sauder Farm when I was a kid! I had forgotten all about that place until reading your post. We went there on field trips for school a few times and with our family 3 or 4 times. I remember there was lots to do and for me, being the animal lover, feeding the baby animals was the best part.

Ah-h-h....a trip down memory lane. I hope you enjoy your visit!

Here, in the NE part of the state, we have Hale Farm and village, which sounds almost exactly like what you describe. Western Reserve Historical Society

The Canfield Fair is, I've been told, Ohio's largest county fair. It's held Labor Day weekend.

If you like cars, there is the 19th Annual Cruise-On-In Dance Party - Massillon, Ohio I'm sure there are lots of these across the state throughout the summer, but I like this one because it's held in downtown of my hometown. There are two blocks dedicated to food vendors!

Or, you could spend a weekend in Amish Country | Ohio | Visitor Information While I find the Amish culture a little interesting, I think the scenery is some of the best Ohio has to offer.

I'm sure there is plenty of stuff I'm leaving out. Hopefuly others will add to the list.

I enjoyed as a kid the Ohio Caverns near West Liberty, Ohio. That's somewhere north of Urbana and Springfield and south of Bellefontaine. It's a little in the middle of nowhere so make sure you follow the directions else you will wind up lost in the countryside. Welcome To Ohio Caverns!

Another cool little getaway for lunch is the Rothschild Farm just outside Urbana. Apparently they let you pick your own berries and such to take home, but it was raining the day we went so I'm not entirly sure of this. However, they do have a little restaurant that serves decent food and a store that sells all kinds of wonderful dips. The best part is the free samples everywhere. Home - Robert Rothschild Farm
