The stretch of 24 from Toledo through Waterville all the way to Napoleon is a death trap. ALOT of accidents over the years. The stretch from Napoleon to Defiance is better since it is divided.

I used to drive 24 from Toledo to Route 6 to get to Indiana on a regular basis in the mid 90s. I never had a problem, although that stretch of road is considered dangerous. I remember some congestion in the Waterville area, but mostly smooth sailing all the way to Butler Indiana.

They are in the process right now of making it 4 lane all the way from Toledo to Fort Wayne. When it is done in a couple of years, the truck traffic will not be going through all those residential areas.

The stretches around Napoleon and around Defiance have been 4 lane for many years. They are rebuilding the original 2 lanes between Napoleon and Defiance right now. They just finished adding 2 new lanes that will be the westbound lanes when the rebuilding is done.

The REAL death trap is the stretch between Antwerp and Defiance.
The lines of sight are very poor and for some reason there are passing lanes just before curves in the road.
???

Also at night, there are PLENTY (Too Many)trucks on US 24. And they don't drive slowly.

If you use this road...use extreme caution

I just drove this route yesterday. Its long, boring, and there is now a detour about 25 miles west of Maumee. The biggest problem for me is always ending up behind someone going 10 miles under the speed limit and there are so many trucks coming from the other way that you can never pass. I always make the decision around Toledo to either take the 24 or just take the 69 back home to Fort Wayne. From now on, I'll pay the extra $2.75 in tolls and stay on the 69.

Back a couple of years ago, the OH Turnpike Authority lowered truck tolls and raised the truck speed limit to 65 on the OH Turnpike All this was to lure trucks back to the turnpike. While they've had some success, it's still a major bite out of a carrier's revenue to pay tolls. (Awful hard to do when you're getting paid little more than your fuel costs on some loads...)
