In response to Luv2flip I am moving in with a freshman and we too are struggling with the idea of moving yet again. We have moved a total of 6 times in 14 years and while it is difficult it is something that must be done. I am with you on the difficutly of encouraging our children to embrace this move. I think it would be great if someone could give us some information on the local highschools that would be worth going to along with the Jr. high's for myself.

My husband just got picked up for GM and we are really worried about this move. I am moving in with a freshman that excells at everything and a 7th grader who struggles. Both are in to sports. Daughter cheerleading and dance son basketball and baseball. We are looking for something that has atleast one acre and we are looking to be about 20-30 miles from the plant or a half way point for me because I am an RN and need to work. We are coming in with three dogs and cats. I think though the biggest priority is a school district that fits my children. I have seen a lot posted about not moving in to Lordstown so I guess I am kinda wondering where to go? My husband report 9/1 and we wont move until a house is found so it will probably be a midyear move so a school that is friendly with that would be great too.

I would look into Cortland/Bazetta (Lakeview Schools), Howland, Champion, perhaps Canfield. I can help you more if you provide more criteria, like amount you can spend on a home, what size school, etc.

CRITERIA: Approx 200K, 1+ acre, rural or sub., good schools usually smaller nothing to big I like all children to have identity, something that will help my family really embrace Ohio. I really doubt that this will be our final resting place so something that would also be resaleable. I dont know really just looking for safety and schools and an opportunity to experience.

The two top notch rural schools that I would recommend are Western Reserve with 800 kids k-12, and South Range 1300 kids k-12.

Canfield is a bigger school but also has its rural areas.

Canfield Local Schools

South Range Website

Western Reserve Local Schools

Western Reserve is an open enrollment district, so you wouldn't have to live there at first.
South Range is closed enrollment. You would absolutely have to prove residency in the district to go here.

I'm not sure about Canfield but would guess closed enrollment.

One thing to think about w/a rural area is the septic issue, many people don't want to buy a house w/septic or a well. I knew SouthRange would come through w/the Mahoning County schools, but if you're looking in Trumbull (Lordstown is in Trumbull near the Mahoning Co. border), i would definitely go w/Champion, Bazetta/Cortland (Lakeview Schools). Howland is probably a little too big for what you're looking for and w/a lot that big you'll be hard pressed to find anything under $400k.

Champion has a lot of one acre properties, as does Bazetta. If you're willing to go a little smaller on the lot size you might have a good chance of something that will hold its value in Cortland. Cortland is a small town of about 7,000 people (about the same size as Canfield City), it's very family oriented, with Excellent schools and Mosquito Lake nearby. I would suggest you keep your price range between $150k-$180k as those are the homes that are selling best in Cortland (you can easily get a 2500 sq/ft house for around $180k-$200k). Also remember this area is a buyers market so don't be afraid to bid 20% less or so. You might also want to check what the previous sale price for a home if you're looking to bid too. In Trumbull Co you can check sale prices here: Trumbull County Auditor

Let us know if you have anymore questions and we'll be happy to help. If you have a question about a specific house or neighborhood let us know.

I should have made myself clearer.

Where does she work? How do you pick an area that is halfway to Lordstown if you do not know where she is working now? If she is looking for work it doesn't really matter. RN's can always get a job.

She doesn't live around here, her husband is transferring to GM, they want to live w/in 30 minutes. So halfway between 30 minutes and GM could technically be a 15 minute radius of Lordstown........
