I reread her post. The OP said 20 or 30 miles OR halfway. I would think "halfway" would be if she found a job more than 30 miles away, such as in Cleveland, not a 15 mile radius of Lordstown.

Thank you Cortlandgirl I will look into the school districts. Jodipper please realize that RNs cant just get a job anywhere, there are a lot of things to think about like advance practices, specialties and career choices not just job choices. I dont know what hospital I will be working a but I do know that it will be a minimum of 40 mins away from Lordstown so my husband can share the commute if he chooses to move and uproot his family, but you are right so far I can only find my work in Cleveland - talk about commute. I am not so worried about housing I am worried about schools for my children, and stability for my husband. I am sorry that my previous post was so confusing. Thank you Cortlandgirl

Where are you living now? What nursing specialty are you looking for? There are a lot of hospitals, urgent care centers, surgery centers, LTC providers in the area. Maybe if i knew what you were looking for job wise i could help. You might also want to look towards Pittsburgh or Akron as they are about the same distance to Lordstown give or take.

If it comes down to a nursing job in Cleveland, I would look for something along the turnpike around Aurora, or Streetsboro.

I agree w/SouthRange here, Aurora, Stow, or Streetsboro might work. If you're commuting to Cleveland the traffic will be heavier for you and the winter weather is more likely to be worse due to that area being in the snow belt so I would live a tad closer to Cleveland than Lordstown. I really do encourage you to look for something in Akron, Youngstown/Warren, or Pittsburgh due to the snow, especially if that's something you're not used to.

Thank you for both your help, like I said I am more concerned about school district then work for me. I do continue my career search and look forward to the challenge of a new environment. Snow doesnt bother me to drive in...although not ideal no big deal. I continue to look for work, so I guess for the time being we are looking for houses that are in an ideal school district with smaller numbers of students but great testing scores and good choices for athletics. If my kids are happy then that is all that matters to me. Thanks for your help. I have looked into a few districts you have mentioned and find most are good. Why do you suggest to stay away from Austintown, Youngstown and Warren schools? Is safety an issue at any of the schools?

Youngstown, and Warren are terrible city schools. Besides being a huge district, Austintown gets the spillover from Youngstown.

Last year Youngstown was officially the worst district in Ohio.

Youngstown and Warren are inner city schools, but i have to correct SRF on Warren. Warren has excellent schools if you're a good student, the problem is the other distractions in the Warren Schools. Now if you're on the northeast side your kids would go to Lincoln k-8 school which is a good school and is probably more middle class/family oriented school. I have friends that send their kids to Lincoln and they love it. Warren has all new schools, but it's a big district and there are a lot of bad influences at work in the homes of many of these kids and it spills over into the schools. If you're interested in Warren you might want to look into Catholic School (Blessed Sacrement/Warren JFK).

I still would think Champion, Lakeview would be your best bet when it comes to being a little closer to Cleveland, but still in Trumbull Co. I can't comment on the Streetboro area, but i've only heard good things and i read somewhere that Twinsburg's schools were really good, but i think that would be too far of a commute. Just to give you an idea, i think Lakeview has been graduating about 140 kids per class, when i graduated in 1997 i think there were 185 in my class, so the job loss around here has shrunk many of the schools. If i had to guess i would say Howland has about 300 kids per class, which i would consider a big school around here. If that size isn't big to you then Howland to me is better than Champion.

Cort, normally I would take your word for it. On this occasion I'm going to disagree. Warren schools are meeting two out of 26 State goals. They are on academic watch. While a few students may be doing excellent, by no stretch of the imagination can Warren schools be considered even close to acceptable.

That's because the other three k-8 schools are pretty horrible from what i've heard. I'm going off of information that several of my girlfriends have given me. Like is said there are some really bad parents, poverty and drugs facing many of these kids especially on the west and southeast sides of town. The northeast part of town is still fairly nice and Lincoln School is good. I think standardized testing is a complete joke. I'm not actually recommending that the OP move to Warren, but i know you can get a good education there. Warren Harding offers much more academically to a good student than just about every district in Trumbull County.
