How can I get hired into GM in Lordstown, OH?? I am struggling here in MI, and since well our Gov sucks and does not care if we have jobs or not I would in a heartbeat move out to anywhere I can find a steady job. Can someone please provide the info to getting an application? I have googled and googled that question and yet no answer. Thank you.

I'm pretty sure the hiring at Lordstown ended a couple of months ago. Many of the new employees were transfers from other GM plants or from our local Delphi Packard operations. I believe most of the other hires are temporary and you basically have to know someone working in the plant to get hired. If you are looking to make around $10 or $11/hr. Delphi in Warren, Ohio is probably hiring (probably not a secure job though). You might also want to looking into some other suppliers in the Lordstown area, such as Intier Seating, Leer, or Comprehensive Logistics. I'm sure most of these places hire through our local One Stop office (unemployment). You can also check out this website for more info. Ohio Jobs - Jobs in Ohio - Cleveland Jobs - Toledo Jobs Good luck on your search.

Lordstown, Oh -I want the truth and nothing but the truth
My wife and I both work for GM. We are both transfering to the lordstown plant. We are searching for a specific criteria for our family on our relocation. A city or housing development within a 20/25 mile radius from the plant only, housing prices around $200k,excellent schools, shopping, close knit community,A place where we can raise our daughter with the best intentions for a happy and heathly future. Please help!!

Since you specifically said city or housing development, I'm going to rule out all of the rural areas that I would normally recommend. If you were willing to live on a few acres with some distant neighbors, I could recommend a few more areas.
Right now your two choices in Mahoning County would be Canfield, and the Beaver Township portion of the South Range School District. Trumbull County would have a few more, but Cortlandgirl is the expert in that area. She will have to point them out for you.
Mahoning County also has Poland, but the more time I spend there, and the more things I hear, the less impressed I am with it.

CootDawg, glad to hear you got a transfer. If you're looking for a good area in the 200k's I would look into Howland, Bazetta Township, or Cortland.......in that order.
Howland Township (44484) is the closest of the three to Lordstown. It has multiple housing developments in your price range, a good mix of people (blue collar, professional, etc.), and it's very close to all the shopping you could want. Howland itself has a few shopping plazas, plus the Eastwood Mall Complex is located on the southern fringe of the township. The Howland School district is ranked Excellent w/distinction.
Next i would recommend Bazetta Township (44410 shared zipcode w/Cortland), specifically East Bazetta (meaning on the east side of Mosquito Lake). Bazetta Township starts at northern border of Howland Township and extends north to the city of Cortland. The area doesn't have as many housing developments as Howland, but the areas are very similar when it comes to housing options, people, look, and feel. I would suggest you look into developments such as Timber Creek or Timber Creek Heights, as well as a new housing development named Stonegate (i think that's what it's called). Bazetta Township is also part of the Lakeview School District which has been designated Excellent w/distinction.
Lastly, i would recommend Cortland. The city of Cortland is located on the shores of Mosquito Lake (along w/Bazetta) and is about 15 miles from Lordstown. Unfortunately, the drive takes around 30 minutes due to all the traffic lights you would face on the way to work. Here's a map to give you a better idea: from: cortland ohio to: lordstown ohio - Google Maps Cortland is also located in the Lakeview School District and three of the districts four buildings are located within the city.
If you are interested in Cortland i would recommend that you check out the area between Fowler St. and St. Rt. 305, this would probably cut 5 minutes off of your drive time. Cortland itself has a cute little downtown with some specialty shops, a cafe, a barbershop and a couple of small places to eat. The main roads in Cortland have sidewalks and no matter where you live in the city you would be able to walk or ride your bike to the downtown area, Willow Park, or Mosquito Lake. Cortland lacks the shopping that Howland possesses, but they do have a grocery store (Sparkle, stuck in the 80s), Rite Aid, Walgreens, Circle K, a few restaurants, gas stations, etc. The Eastwood mall and all the shopping and restaurants that go with it is located about 10 to 15 minutes to the south of the city.
Oh yeah, i should also mention that our new Super Walmart is located in Bazetta township, just south of Cortland on Elm Rd. (Rt. 5). There is also more shopping and restaurants in that area.

Should we pick Lordstown?
My husband works at the Janesville, WI plant which is closing at the end of December. He is hourly and started in 1986. We need to decide where we want to go. We have been debating on Lordstown, Lake Orion MI or Fairfax KS. Can you tell me whether Lordstown would be a good fit for us. We would need a 4 bedroom 2 bath house for around 150,000.00 . We actually prefer older two story homes. We would like to have atleast 1/2 and acre of land. My husband loves to fish-especially ice fishing. Also, we currently school our children with Connections Academy and I would like to continue to do so or atleast homeschool them. We have four children ages 9, 7, 4 and 2. We would also need a good clinic/hospital nearby as I am a breast cancer survivor and will need follow up care. If anyone can answer my questions my email address is johnrachael@litewire.net. Thank you very much. This is a very difficult decision to make in a short amount of time
