Default Tranfer to Lordstown area

We have two boys going into freshman year and one girl going into 4th grade. The boys struggle in school only because they hate homework, both test advanced in all around subjects. The girl does well and we are not as concerned about her for the most part as she is very adaptable. Looking for a great school for them. Small is ok, large may be too much for them. Would like a very safe area, need to rent for now and we will have our two labs with so need pets to be ok. Husband will be going out and reports June 1, I just happened to be laid off for the summer, so we have 3 months to find a place for us all as he has a place for a bit to stay with a friend. We are not sure about buying as we are keeping our house in WI, (paid for) so long term rental is a high priority, or rent to own might be a possibility. Any help would be great. Any suggestions for any/all relocation information you have are much appreciated. We shift between scared, excited, love it, hate it, and many other emotions. We live 10 miles from where we both grew up, and both of our families all live in WI so we are on our own in this and appreciate all the things we have learned from this thread already.
Thanks again,
Kel

Western Reserve school district has 850 kids total. They are rated excellent by the State. They are less than 10 minutes away from Lordstown. You won't find any apartments, but there are houses for rent. Most properties are 5 acres and bigger.

I've said many times before, search by school district not by address. WR schools are in Ellsworth, and Berlin Townships, but the address could also be North Jackson, Canfield, or Salem.

Our biggest schools in Mahoning County are Austintown, Canfield, Boardman, Poland, and West Branch. You couldn't pay me to send my kids to Austintown, or Boardman.

Where are you renting? I"m hoping on the NE side. Lincoln is a very good school, Blessed Sacrament is the private school in Warren. I'm just hoping you didn't decide to rent in the wrong place..........

Default NE Warren question

We are looking at a place to rent in NE Warren on Edgewood. Any suggestions, comments, or hints? We have had a VERY hard time finding a place that will accept our dogs. What elementary school would we go to? I am assuming WGH for high school as it is just a few blocks away.
Thanks for any help.
Kel

I would say Edgewood is ok and the closer you are to Genesse the better. You'll find many of your neighbors are elderly or renters. Being that it's near the school and some other nice streets you probably won't have too many problems. My one girlfriend lives on Beechwood and another friend lives on Maplewood and they are nice quiet neighborhoods. Atlantic on the other side of Elm Rd is getting pretty sketchy these days, lots of rentals and druggies on those side streets so steer clear of venturing too far that direction. Also, i would guess that Lincoln would be the elementary school. I have a few friends who send there kids there and they love it. It's a brand new school and they keep the older kids separated from the younger kids.

BTW, if you're not sure you want to rent that house you may want to look into some other areas, both Howland and Cortland have a lot of duplexes. I've seen a lot of for rent signs on Fowler St in Cortland. Many landlords don't advertise, they just put a sign in the yard and get inquiries that way. Also, if you have nice dogs that don't destroy things you might be able to talk them into it by saying you'll pay extra or will sign an agreement to replace carpet, etc.

Good luck and let us know if you need more help and let us know how it is once you get here.

Here are some options, there's a house in Howland for rent, doesn't say "no pets". Hot-Ads Warren, OH

Also, Northbury Colony allows pets and they've dropped their rental fees. You could probably get a decent townhouse for less than 650 or 700/month, a 3BR is a little more and it's Howland Schools which are rated Excellent.

You might be able to talk these people into allowing your dogs. bedroom 1bath with attched garage (http://youngstown.craigslist.org/apa/1828620392.html - broken link)

My best advice it to get out there and drive around, look for the "for rent" signs, then come back here and ask us if the street is ok.

Glad you found a place. Let me know what the neighborhood is like once you move in. What kind of dr's??? I use Churazzi up in Howland as my family dr. but i think he still has a waiting list. Dentist - I go to Dr. Betz in Cortland, my boyfriend uses Harnett, and i hear good things about Dr. Davenport (they're all in Cortland, about 5 or 10 minutes from you). If you're looking for a good gyno i go to Euker and Shipman at Forum Health on Elm Rd. If you're looking for the kids i would suggest Dr. Vlad and his group also at Forum Health. Vet - I always use Town and Country in Howland some of my friends use Dr. Makenzie in Cortland on High St (rt. 5/46). It might be a good idea to have your husband ask some coworkers in the Warren area where they go.

Furniture - Plenty of places in Warren/Niles/Boardman...........Goldsteins, Lazyboy, definitely check out Sheely's in North Lima (it's about a 30 minute drive but it's worth it), it's huge, locally owned and they have appliances and furniture (they also deliver to Trumbull co, i got my couch there). You'll find plenty of furniture places on 224 in Boardman, Value City, Sofas Plus, etc etc.

Bedding we have the usual places, Target, Dilllards, Kohls, Penny's, Macy's, TJ Maxx, and i think there is a Bed Bath and Beyond on 224 in Boardman still.

Good luck and if you need anymore help, just ask!

Where would you suggest for a 42yo professional (working in mgt) Black male? No kids, W/I 30 min of Lordstown, prefer city or suburbs, racially diverse as possible, or an area with no major racial hang ups (we don't want drama). We hope to find a nice 2-3br apt or condo (rental) that is clean, somewhat quiet, and not too far from shopping, entertainment, etc. for under $1000/mo. -- willing to pay more if we find a luxury unit.
