Default Moving to Miamisburg Area

We're looking for some information about the area. We'll be relocating there as soon (or as late) as we sell our home here in Wisconsin, and we want to find a home very very close to my husband's job in Miamisburg, but we'd like to know about the areas. Is Miamisburg a good place to look for a home? What about Centerville, Kettering, Springboro, Franklin? We have a 4 year old, and the school would be important. Our price range would be no more than $175, but it looks like we could get something nice for less than that. Any suggestions? Thank you!

Also, I've seen some people complaining about the taxes. What about property tax? It's my understanding that Wisconsin's property taxes are higher than Ohio's. I guess it all depends on where one is coming from whether the taxes are a problem or not. I think the only state worse than Wisconsin as far as property taxes goes is Texas.

Bettyboopster, we live in neaighboring Washington Twp and really like it there. (We pay somewhat higher property taxes but no income tax, as the cities like Centerville and Miamisburg do. There are some really neat things about Miamisburg, IMHO. A neat downtown, some great new housing developments as well as the older homes near downtown. You're near LOTS of retail in Miami Township (Dayton Mall and surrounding area) M'burg's schools are pretty good, too. $175K in Miamisburg will get you a very nice house, I believe. Maybe not a brand new house , but there are some very nice "settled' neighborhoods with nice mature trees! Hoope this is a good beginning to your questions. Welcome!

Default Move To Miamisburg

All the areas that you are looking at are good neighborhoods. Springboro and Franklin would have more new construction homes. If you want a small town feel, you may want to go further south and consider Lebanon.

Here's a great link for school information.

I grew up in Centerville and am now raising my kids here. The school district is among the best in the state. You will be able to get a decent-sized home for $175,000 here too. There really are no bad neighborhoods in Centerville. Kettering, Miamisburg and Springboro would take a second place seat. And honestly, I would take Franklin off the list altogether.

Thanks for your helpful replies. I was leaning towards Miamisburg and Centerville because of the closeness to my husband's job, and now I'm relieved to know they're nice areas.

Bettyboopster, Washington Twp. and Centerville share resources like fire, recreation center, libraries, etc. (Centerville has it's own P.D while the Township contracts with the Montgomery Co. Sheriff; both provide outstanding police protection, IMHO) Washington Twp. has somewhat higher property taxes but no city income tax. Centerville is just the opposite) I rather like our Township trustees vs. Centerville's gov't. But that's just me.
