In Dayton, there is a major street named Salem Avenue (State Route 48); it was named as such because this street used to run from Dayton's CBD out to Salem; this street is a legacy of that town's old name.

LOL your not hijacking, your just helping someone out. You wouldn't believe how many Salems there are in this country.

Salem
Salem is a good place to live and raise children. It has it's problems as such any area but not as bad or as many. Ive lived here 55 years, went to school here and worked here. Schooled my self and my children here also. The biggest problem is jobs, they are here but either pay low wages or you need experiance. We have some problem with alcohol and drugs but less than normal and the problems are theirs not ours mostly. Only a few murder in 55 years not 2-3 a day like youngstown. Houses are selling on the low side now. Seen one sell for as low as 15,000. but there is a lot of houses over 100,000. also. The street are safe, some may seem scary to some but I have and still do walk the back streets all over town and never had any trouble. Also never had to worry much about my kids being out like you do in most towns now It's a old town with lots of history and old homes and for the most part the people are real friendy and ready to meet new people. My biggest complaint is nothing really happens here, but as I have aged I find this to be very good.

I moved to Salem during middle school and graduated there. I have lived there for a couple years after. There wasnt anywhere that i wouldnt go in Salem. The people and community always have their Salem Days when they shut down the roads. I have a lot of great memories there. And they say you can never move back, but you know, i would bet you that i could... "Go Quakers"

I too am thinking about moving to W. Salem. I have four children, so schools, a safe place to raise a family and diversity are of importance. I am African American and worried with such a small (non existence) population of oher races, will we find it inhospitable?

west salem is totally a drag. bwahahahahahahahahaha.
as far as the original question, if you have to move to the mahoning valley, the sprawl is moving south into columbiana county. salem itself is ok. good luck finding a job.

If you're talking about Quaker City Raceway (drag strip), that's pretty funny.
