Is there a technical sheet for it?

My boyfriend and I had this talk just yesterday as he is from Ohio and moved here to CA. It is in the Eastern Time Zone so he says it's back East. That along with how close Ohio is geographically to places like Baltimore and NYC makes us think it's "back east" rather than Midwest.

No, it's not. don't talk about place where you haven't been before. It's not back east, and that's vague. come back when you've seen every place you mentioned. I can freely talk about CA, and why I think it might look like a lot like Mexico.

I'm from Ohio. There are a lot of places that are in the Eastern Time Zone that are not considered to be in the East. Pennsylvania, maybe, but not Ohio.

No, but it was late at night and I didn't feel like typing that much out. I was stating a proper defense, however. Show me a technical sheet for the VA area. That would definitely end a fight down there

She hasn't been out here. Typical from somebody in CA to just assume things and act like it's right when you haven't even been to a place before. You have to go out there and get experience from different regions to create a conjecture

I've been there twice. It's a comment based on geography and by the way, he is from Ohio. It is east as it's in the Eastern Time Zone. If the culture is more Midwestern then so be it. What is so bad about being east, west, north or south.?

And Southern CA does look a lot like Mexico. It has the mountains, deserts and earthquakes.

I have been there twice and I flew east both time. Get over the CA hate and enjoy shoveling that snow this winter.

Born, raised, and educated in Dayton, and I most assuredly write with a pen.

This is true, and I can cite my own family as an example. One half came north to Dayton in the 1930's from Kentucky. They settled in an area that attracted many other Appalachians, and they retained much of their original dialect, which isn't exactly southern to my ears. It's more, well, Appalachian. The other side of my family settled in Ohio about a century earlier, coming from Connecticut via Darke County. Members of that family did not sound southern at all, having a much flatter, nondescript dialect.

The current generations of my family resemble the second group. We are hard for people to place geographically, although I'll occasionally run into another southwest Ohioan here in the west who picks up on it pretty quickly. We seem to have some sort of built-in recognition system for each other to which most people are completely oblivious. I don't think it's the way we pronounce our words as much as it is the way we use our voices. There's a slight nasal quality. I wish I could be more descriptive, but if you're familiar with it, you'll know exactly what I mean.

As to the original question, it's the Midwest. Definitely the Midwest.
