Question Springfield, OH from September 1 to November 18, 2008

Hello,

I've never been to Ohio, so I know very little about the area. I'll be attending a quarter-long court reporting class at Clark State Community College in Springfield. I'm comming in from California, so I won't have a car and I will need to take public transportation. Can anyone please give me advice on finding a short-term rental or b&b type accomodation in Springfield? I had thought about living in Dayton, but am not sure about the commute options, ride share, etc.

I would greatly appreciate any advice.

Thanks! Xavier

I've seen questions asked about Springfield here before and no responses. Its billed as the 11th largest city in Ohio but its like no one lives there. I live near Dayton and don't know anyone who has ever lived there. Weird. Good luck.

Hope this catches you in time. You can not...or will have a difficult time commuting from Dayton to Spfld! There is no public transportation and a cab would be a small fortune after a whole quarter. Besides, you don't need the extra 30-45mins on the highway twice a day.

Yes, Springfield is a bit of a quiet town and what little we do have to brag about we stay humble over. Seems it's always been that way. But man, you have to get some living situations set up! It shouldn't be too hard to rent an apt. quickly, but for only 3 months may cost you more on a per month basis. There is a city bus system but I'm not familiar with the routes. You can probably google something on that.

I know the Court Reporting school has been around for decades and has always been considered prestigious. There isn't a lot prestigious in the city, but it's growing rapidly with huge changes in the near future. I'm shocked a school can just ship folks out of CA with no living/transportation plans for them.

If you get this, you can reply with any or more specific questions and I'll answer for you. I'd offer to help you when you arrive, but you know how scary it is to meet people over the net and don't want to scare you. You'll find it doesn't represent all Ohio by no means--is poorer--is nothing like CA, (my bff lives there), but you will be welcomed and people are extremely friendly. Lots of luck.
