I wouldn't say that ... I think the CinDay metro will slow as well as jobs become scarce and gas prices go up.

That the counties/land in an MSA are made because of driving patterns.

You would think it would be based on urban areas, connected urban areas, or areas very connected to the major city area.

The merger will bring the Cincinnati-Dayton metro around 3.1 million putting it ahead of the Cleveland CSA of 2.9 million. However I am still kind of annoyed that they dont even county Canton in our CSA, which is connected to Akron and 1 county over. If Canton was added we would have around 3.5 million. the Cincinnati-Dayton area is going to take up huge land area though. If Cleveland did that we would have all of NE Ohio and then some and over 4.6 million people. I guess it doesnt matter though.
Cleveland metro is not growing and to be honest we dont even need dayton to make our metro 3.1 million, cincinnati metro itself can get to 3.1 million without dayton.

^You brought up a thread that is over three years old to state something quite obvious? The point makes sense. Cleveland's metro area is much smaller in area than either Cincinnati or Columbus. Even if you were to add Akron and Canton into our land area, it still would be smaller in area than the other two. Cleveland's metro area has been pretty stagnant for decades. It is no different than Cincinnati or Columbus where you see high population growth corridors in the outer fringes... i.e. Butler/Warren Counties and Delaware County. In Cleveland's case, Medina County.

And I am curious how Cincinnati can get to 3.1 without Dayton when they currently sit at what 2.3 million?

On this I must agree with you, WRosado (and politely, but firmly, disagree with Cali). The growth between Cincinnati and Dayton resembles that of a shopping mall anchored by two large stores at each end. Depending upon people's affinity for either store will pretty well determine where they spend some of their time, but these folks will probably spend most of their time on mundane shopping somewhere between the two. Nevertheless, everyone agrees that the two big stores anchoring their overall shopping experience are essential for the mall's success--and so it is with Cincinnati and Dayton, and what lies in between.

Based on the current growth rate from 2000 to 2010, it will take almost 100 years for the Cincinnati CSA to reach 3.1 million people.
