Default Youngstown Photos

Just a bunch of random shots around Youngstown... It was way too nice of a day to stay indoors so why not get out & enjoy it, right?

Default Brier Hill

I received a visit from one of Girard's finest while shooting these today. I figured it was going to happen, even though there wasn't a single sign stating "No Trespassing" on the property.

After explaining that there were indeed signs but that they were buried by overgrowth, he allowed me to shoot a couple more. He seemed to appreciate that I stayed out of the buildings so that probably bought me some brownie points, LOL. At that point I had already spent well over an hour there so I thanked him, waved & went on my way.

Thanks again to the officer for being so accommodating... not to mention not ticketing me!!

Anyway, I hope you enjoy these!

Youngstown - and Ohio - are so beautiful this time of year. I really like these B/W images - especially Youngstown Thermal, and what I think is the West Ave. bridge.

Here's my own pic of the Stambaugh building:

Default Girard

I'm not sure of the specifics on this place... maybe someone from the area can chime in? It can be seen from Rt.11/80 if your heading towards Austintown.

Wow! Those pics are so awesome! That's funny you took a pic of that thing right off of I-80/11, i just drove by there on Thursday.........that's one of the main landmarks i always look at when i drive that way.

Update: I called my dad (he's really into trains) and he's says it's the old Pennsylvania Railroad coal dock and probably hasn't been used since 1956 or 1957............obviously it was used for steam engines, not modern trains

It turned out to be a perfect day... it's days like these that make me appreciate living here in Ohio! My photo of the Stambaugh building turned out better than I expected... I shot it through a dirty windshield... LOL. It is a beautiful building though!

Thanks for the kind words regarding my photos!

Oh cool! I kinda figured you would know what it was or at least someone who would!! I always look at it too & I've often wondered what it was... thanks for calling your dad & finding that out!

It definitely looks like it hasn't been used in ages. The concrete in some places was so brittle you could barely touch it. There still was a lot of coal laying around but the tracks that once lead up to the dock were almost completely covered over with the exception of a few ties sticking out here & there, it was pretty wild! I'll have to go back out there again one day.

Edit: Except I'll wear jeans next time... I cut the shiznit out of my leg today, LOL!
