You must have MIGHTY strong family ties, if you're willing to give up Florida for Medina, Ohio. I currently live in Medina, and can't wait to get out of both the city, and out of Ohio. The winters here are brutal, made worse by road crews that aren't all that interested in cleaning the roads.
Medina itself is a haven for yuppie-types. The beautiful downtown is on a steep decline, with offices taking over where retail stores used to be. As the Wal-martification continues, the yuppies feign at an interest in supporting local merchants, but give their money to the corporate retail north of town.
Of course, this last issue is occurring all over the country, but even if you can tolerate that transition, the weather is awful.
At least where you are, the weather is beautiful. Here it is gray, gray, and more gray for most months of the year.
If you absolutely MUST live in NE Ohio, try Oberlin. At least it has culture and a thriving downtown.

I moved from Bradenton Fl to Medina 3 years ago. The weather has been grey but finally the sun is coming out. I would rather stay here because the schools are ten times better then what middle school I went to down there. My grades were awful and Truthfully I would have been looking to sell drugs, rather then getting a good education. Now Im 18 wanting to go to colleage and get something out of my life. All because I moved up here and went to the nicest school in Medina. Winters are not that bad, you can just put on more clothes. Down there your hot all the time, the heat makes you go crazy trust me. All my friends down there are either selling drugs or having kids but thts your choice if you want to have a vaction home with people who dont trust you. Dream on.

I'd stay clear of Oberlin if you don't like Wal-Mart, its hurt the local ecomomy there too and lots of yuppies as well as tree huggers. And the schools aren't that great either.

Oberlin's economy is probably hurt by Wal-Mart, as are most cities. But at least they managed to force Wal-Mart to build outside the city limits....something they should be commended for.
As for there being a lot of yuppies, I hardly think so. I don't see a lot of BMW's and Mercedes, and there aren't a lot of mansions on postage stamp lots, trying to impress people, as there are in Medina.
As for tree-huggers....if that's supposed to be a put down, it doesn't work. People who care more about the community and about the health of the environment are much more attractive than those that care only about money and status (as in Medina).
Oberlin is great. How many towns can you go through and see senior citizens on the street corner protesting the war? These are progressive minded people, not closed minded ones.

It still draws business away from the local stores in town. And most of the construction on Wal-Mart was done by Mexican workers. Very little of it was done by local contractors, thanks to McMillan construction there on RT58.

I have to give you this one .

When both sides work together, both sides can win. I'm not one for big flashy houses either.

God Bless them that are protesting the war and yes you are right about them being progressive minded people. As long as they work to find a happy medium and not everything has to be thier way only. The college goes a little to far to get what they want for thier students. And Oberlins schools are not that great when alot of the kids that come out of there can hardly read.

I am curious how you would make the transfer from hot to cold.
