Question I-75 construction info needed

I will be driving through Dayton on Sunday Sep 7 2008. I have heard there will be a complete shut down of I-75 South bound. I have been advised to get off at Needmore Rd West and take the Dixie highway/U.S. 25 south to highway 35 and then re-enter onto I-75 Southbound. Can anyone local advise on this or suggest a better route. Thanks in advance. Homer

Sure.

It would be a lot better to just take Neednore east until you hit route 4, than take 4 (which is an interstate-style route through these parts) until you hook up with 75. It is virtually impossible to get lost going that way.

This should get you around any problems, but in case it doesn't, get off on Webster and take it south for about 5 blocks until it dead ends onto third street. Then, turn right on third and go for about three blocks until you hit Patterson, and turn left. Take Patterson for 5 blocks until you almost reach 35, and turn right on Wasington street which will lead you to 35. The next exit off of 35 will be 75, which you take south, and you will be home free. You can also consider this a nice little tour of the Webster station district of Downtown, with such places as the 2nd Street Farmer's Market, Fifth-Third Field, the Oregon District, and Wympee's diner on third (which has great burgers, so I've heard. Still haven't had a chance to go down there).

However, It will probably be all right to take I-75 through town because I have never in my life heard of them completely shutting down I-75 through town. It may be a hectic drive with only 1 lane of traffic, but probably it will not be shut down. So, enjoy your trip and I hope this helps.

Hi Buckeye736! I run through Dayton on I-75 at least 6 times a day... Actually, the construction area IS manageable; just take it easy! As far as I-75 road closure; they have been doing 15 minute closures from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. But that's only on weekday nights. (So far...) I see no reason to detour off I-75 unless there is a wreck and the police direct you to leave the Interstate.

There are actually TWO construction areas to be aware of in the Dayton area; the first one as you drive Southbound is at the I-70/I-75 merge. Be aware of the lane shifts and people that are confused as they negotiate the temporary on/off ramps. PLEASE LEAVE LOTS OF SPACE BETWEEN YOU AND THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF YOU!

South of the I-70/I-75 junction, you will lose the right lane at about mile marker 57. If you are continuing thru Dayton, just stay in the right lane after the lane closure and just follow that on through town.

There is a SHARP right bend in I-75 as you pass Route 4 (The reason for this construction is to make that curve a lot more gradual.) Take it easy thru there but don't panic; there is adequate room to even keep all 18 wheels of a big truck in the same lane if the driver is paying attention!

Ohio Route 4 is scheduled to close in the near future; I'm not sure which direction or the exact date; but I don't see a need for you to use it, anyway. The Webster Street Exit will close this Sunday (09/07/08); per the traffic sign just before the exit.

Just North of Cincinnati, there is ANOTHER construction area; from Exit 29 (OH 63) down to just before the I-275 loop (Exit 16)

OH! And watch your speed in the construction areas; the cops have been watching them hard...

Have a good trip!

Thank you all for your quick response. I feel much better informed now and think I can carefully negotiate I-75 through the city. First time for me on this forum and it worked very well. Thanks again. Buckeye736
