Default Vacation in a Rural Ohio area

I want a weekend get-away somewhere in rural Ohio. Can anyone suggest an area surrounded by countryside? Basically, something that is not near a city is what I want. Also, if you know of anywhere to stay and anything to do in the towns you suggest, that would be appreciated!

Thanks everyone!

Katie,

You might enjoy the Hocking Hills area in SE Ohio. We're about an hour from Columbus. There are nice cabins in the forests. You can do as much or as little as you desire.

For last minute bargains, there's a link on Hocking Hills Region of Ohio - hockinghills.com - "HOCKING HILLS INTERNET GUIDE". You can also check Hocking Hills, Ohio Travel Guide, Hocking Hills & Logan Area Lodging, Dining, Attractions & More. If the cabins are too expensive, we have a Holiday Inn Express and a Baymont Inn that offer rooms for close to $100 per night.

We have seven state parks with beautiful winding roads through forested hillsides. Check us out.

I've heard the Inn at Honey Run is nice, although I haven't stayed there. There is a new Canopy zip line tour in Hocking Hills that sounds like big fun to me, if you are into that sort of thing.

I would highly recommend the Loudonville area in Ashland County. It's a beautiful area with many lakes and rolling terrain. The Mohican river has many canoe liveries.

Loudonville itself is one of the most charming places in Ohio with a unique downtown. It is really a beautiful setting and half-way between Columbus and Cleveland.

Check out Indian Lake State Park. It's kinda hard to describe, but it reminds you of a cross between a quaint New England town, and Great Lakes fishing village, and an oceanside community in California. At any rate, it's basically in the country and you could rent a cabin for the weekend and hop on a sailboat in the lake, or take a relaxing drive through the countryside.

There is also a National Park that is in the top 10 most visited list. Up near Cleveland, I think? We want to check it our ourselves.

Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Good for biking and hiking. If you base yourself around Peninsula you will be in the middle of it.
