What is issue 6 about anyway? It is like we already have voted in a casino. Have we or is voting no on 6 the beginning of allowing a casino in Ohio?

What about Mountaineer? It's on land. Cleveland has way to many places and attractions, as Columbus, and Cinncinati. The Middle of No Where is great!!! Maybe while have good resturant experience. I worked in Wooster Ohio for 6 mths and I loved all their wonderful Amish Cooking. Nothing like the city. I am thinking of the JOBS, JOBS, and JOBS. Plus I won't burn so much gas going out of state. Maybe they'll build an indoor waterpark and conference area like Fort rapids? I would be able to gamble @ Night and the Kids play in the Day. I AM VOTING YES!!!! I now live in Marion OH, so I know about FARM LAND

Put at least one in Cleveland and Ill vote for it (if I vote at all), other than that I dont think so. I wouldnt mind if one was in Columbus though. Cincinnatis kind of far to drive so that wouldnt really make sense to me, Detroits a lot closer. IMO I would like to see at least one in the 3 C's.

Prop 6 is only to allow a proposed casino in clinton county. However, if you get one in here - you might have a better chance at getting more sometime in the future.
I don't mind the location, in my opinion it goes with the I-71 "recreation" theme - with KI to the South and adult gaming to the North. Additionally, it is pretty covenient commute from most of Cincy suburbs (of course I live in Lebanon, so super convenient to me) - and as it is proposed as a "destination" casino - 5 star hotel, concerts/events - the idea would be that people would come and "spend the night" or weekend --- rather than just drive there and then drive home.
Having just moved from the Detroit area - which allowed Casinos about 10,11 years ago - I would say that overall the effect (social consequences) are not near as dire as people imagine.
People who have a gambling problem - well, they are already spending their money on lottery tickets, on online and illegal betting, or on bingoes or going over to Argosy. They are not going to "suddenly" discover gambling. Also, because gambling is VERY TIGHTLY regulated in this country, as soon as the casino moves in - chapters of "gambler's anonymous" will show up - and community service tv and phone ads will go out letting people know that if they have trouble - their is help.
Most casino jobs will be more than minimum wage. These people have a lot of responsibility, and pay normally gets adjusted accordingly. In Detroit, most of the jobs went to locals - they hired them in about 3 months before the casinos opened, to train them. That is cheaper for them than relocating experienced people to the area.
Also - most casino workers make fairly good tips, which offset whatever their wages end up being.
Lastly - be outlawing casinos in OHIO - you are not preventing the people from gambling, you are just making sure your state gets NOTHING from the gambling they do. If its going to happen anyway (and it is) - don't you at least want Ohio to get some kind of profit from it?? Building the casino here ensures that...
Oh.. and drunk drivers do not suddenly go up with casino creation, neither do strip clubs. Strip clubs is an individual town/county zoning item -- if Clinton county has no ordinances against strip clubs, maybe someone will build one? But if Clinton county does zone that type of activity - it will not suddenly be turned over because a Casino is being built?
How crazy conservative are people in this state?? Casino does not automatically = SIN!!!
Casino can equal a nice dinner out, and a show - no gambling (or prositiution, or strip clubs, or drunk driving) included!!!
Haven't you seen even VEGAS caters to FAMILIES and not just desperate gamblers!
My vote - yes on 6.

Difference from Cincy to Cleveland and Cleveland to Detroit is 82 miles. The difference between Detroit and Cleveland and Cleveland and Wilmington (SWOH, where the proposed site is), is 29 miles.

Ohio as a state is taking the biggest hit because of Indiana ... Belterra, Argosy, and Grand Victoria are reaping the benefits of SWOH.
I think once this once gets built, others will soon follow (Cleveland area). If this gets voted down, will OH ever see a casino? Probably so, but not for a long time.

This is the 3rd paragraph.
Reduce the tax paid by the casino authorized by this amendment to the lesser of the rate taxed on another casino or 25%, in the event another casino is permitted in Ohio in the future.
It came from here 2008 Ohio Ballot Language for Issue Six
Doesn't look like it would ban all other casinos to me.

If the proposed casino's tax could be cut due to a new casino, why wouldn't it want another casino (specifically in a different region, i.e. Cleve)?

Okay - so I've read both the ballot language and the actual amendment language -- I don't see ANYTHING that prohibits future casinos, if the state (and its voters) decided to have additional votes to authorize them. It is true that this amendment is for ONE casino - to be located in Clinton County, but I don't see a darn thing eliminating future casinos.. Where is that coming from?
Additionally, the amendment does provide for tax sharing with ALL Ohio counties, as well as making money availalbe for any sort of "anti-gambling" public service announcements, etc..
I don't know, still looks good to me.
