Statistically they seem about the same - as in male/female, white/black...
Other than size, are they fairly similar in terms of "vibe"?
Sound off!
just thought I would remind you guys of the topic...

Wow! Didn't expect such a response!
From what I just read, I'm getting that Cinci is more of a "city" while Dayton has a more rural vibe...
I'll have to see for myself but that said, I'd probably prefer Dayton...
Also it seems Dayton is more laid back & blue collar?
Also sounds good to me.
But I won't know until I visit.
Now about yall's weather...

Elfyum - just know this about the weather in Cincinnati and the weather in Dayton. Whenever it is cold here, it is always colder to the north (Dayton). Whenever we get snow, there is always more to the north (Dayton).

I drive to Dayton once a week and I can tell you that if it is bad here it will be worse in Dayton. Doesn't make me not make the trip (45 mins - 1 hr), just makes me more cautious.

Really, you can't go wrong either City. Enjoy!

That's not always true. I can remember quite a number of Winter weather events in recent years when Cincinnati got nailed with heavier snow or ice than Dayton. Heck, most times Cincinnati gets more snow than even I do here in West Chester.

Hi again Elfyum,
I like the weather here in Dayton. We have four real seasons (including pretty fall leaves right now!) and some really good thunder and lightning storms here and there with short but massive downpours. Summers are beautiful with a lot of sunny days and not too much humidity. Then again I've only been here two years - this year we got about 6 days total of humidity and last summer seemed like two months straight. We have a few nice snowstorms in the winter with temps dipping down to single digits at times with negative windchills. Winter seems to last about three months (Dec - Jan - Feb) but I've been told it has started as early as Oct before. The snow, when we get it, is a "dry" snow (I'm basing that on the big clumpy wet plopping "flakes" that we got where I moved here from!) And a lot of sun in-between all of that. The weather changes constantly from week to week and day to day and sometimes hour to hour. ALL of which I have never before experienced in my life before I moved here two years ago! People here kind of joke "If you don't like the weather in Dayton, wait an hour!"

If you guys want to compare weather, check out this site. Source is from NOAA. Below is an idea on how the graphs look. For snowfall, check out the precipitation. As you can see, they're almost identical. Fronts and forecast are so large that a minute distance in land area isn't going to make that much of a difference.

the weather is almost the same, except what malachi23 said about the seasons. even with this weirdo weather we've been getting lately (hard to say for ohio isn't it?), dayton has a slightly earlier fall. though imo dayton has really bad humidity in the summer months, just not quite on cinci's level.

I dont recall the city population but the county as around 600-700 thou, so its not going to be rural. The way the city & suburbia grew...sort of a north-sout axis... means countryside is close at hand if you head west, true...

Funny thing about Dayton... It seems that very well established mega companies use Dayton as a test city for new products before releasing them to stores nationwide. That's because Dayton tends to be very settled. It's not a tourist town, not much in the way of transients. it's just very settled and very established. How do I know this? My mom was born and raised in Dayton. She died there.

Once upon a time, I was forced out of my home in Dayton and had to make my way in a foreign land now referred to as Florida. Those early days were hard. Mom sent me care packages to keep me afloat. She'd send a box with a jar of peanut butter, grocery coupons, package of coffee, tea bags, pasta, newspaper clippings she thought I'd find interesting, that sort of thing. I wasn't really destitute, but she needed to be needed, so I played along. Then one day she sent me a care package with something new in it. Coffee bags similar to tea bags - put out by Folgers. Pretty cool. I tried to find them in my city and got strange looks from everyone. I called Folgers Customer Service. They weren't surprised that I couldn't find them. Dayton was the test city and that's where they were available to the public. Shortly thereafter, they were released nationwide. This was back in the late 70's, if memory serves. That's pretty cool about Dayton. It's a test city for new products. If Dayton loves it, the whole country will love it. Cinci can't boast anything that cool.
