Alternate Lifestyle In Columbus Ohio?
My partner and I are thinking about moving to Columbus Ohio. We are moving from the West Coast due to cost and economy. Is Columbus "alternate friendly" place and how is the economy and housing. From what I have been reading, it seems to be a desireable place to live.

columbus is very tolerant to alternative lifestyles. i live in the short north area of columbus, and there is a very large presence of alternative living in this part of town. overall, columbus has become a magnet for those seeking a tolerant area. the housing is affordable, the economy is dipping a bit with this crisis, but columbus is a government/college town, so there will always be some economy that's alive and kicking. definitely look into columbus.

I would say out of all of Ohio's large cities, Columbus would definitely be the place to look for an "alternative-friendly" lifestyle.
And FWIW, it's too bad you're wanting to leave Portland. I've heard it's a really great place, and I'd love to check it out myself some day. But alas, I'm sure that will most likely never happen as I've also heard the economy isn't as great as it once was, and it's quite expensive there. Such a shame because it's a beautiful area, I understand.

Like others have said, Columbus is extremely tolerant and probably the most out of the 3C's.

We are all assuming this person simply means gay when they say "Alternative Friendly", when they might be talking about s&m, swinging or even llamas. If it is gay, then definitely Columbus (short north)... if llamas, C-bus also has a great zoo, although I don't think you are allowed to interact with them.

Ha! I thought the "partner" thing gave it away.
I remember back when I was in college, I was driving down High St. and I looked to my left and a couple of dudes dancing erotically in the window wearing leather speedos ....

Meh... you see that kinda thing in any given church around the Short North area. At the clubs, there are no speedos.

Well, maybe they meant "alternate forms of energy".
Yeah, that's it. I'm sure of it. They're looking for the greenest city in Ohio. Dublin's pretty green, isn't it?
Or maybe they mean some drinks with a kick, and a hunky waiter to serve them. (Although I personally find the guys in Cleveland to be MUCH better looking.)
Mmm hmmm.....lots of gay bars in Columbus that will charge them right up.
