The west side is the safiest side. I dont know what article you were reading, but it was wrong lol. Youngstown's west side has nicer housing with many new housing going in as urban renewal. In fact its going on all across Youngstown, just more noticeable in the westside. As pasharon said, the west side borders Austintown. I really like Austintown. Its got about everything and not far from the Southern Park Mall. Its right on I-680 and Route 11. Like i said, i would check into the suburbs. Youngstown has a nice selection of nice suburbs.

I lived there about two years ago. Go there about four times a month to see family and friends. Having lived there my whole life with the exception of Michigan for six months (which i regret so much). Then back to Pittsburgh, and i have been living in Cleveland for about two years. Ohio is a great state. So much diversity and culture. I know a lot about the Pittsburgh area.

Live in Warren Co.
Dawnie417-----I currently live in Lebanon, OH which is in warren co. I have lived there for 5 years. We love it, the schools are wonderful. I have a daughter in the 3rd grade. I know of great daycares in the area. The great thing is that we are 20 minutes from downtown Cincinnati and we are about 30 minutes from Dayton. It has great access to the interstate. The houses are priced in all ranges, we have very low property taxes. We have the largest YMCA in the US, we are right near Kings Island Amusement park, The Beach Water park.
Please feel free to ask whatever other questions you might have. Have you started looking at homes in Ohio??????????

I'd advise against Warren, especially if you have children. The High School, Warren G. Harding, is a very rough school. Warren has a lotof crime (5 murders a year, on average, in a city of 50,000), and there is not much there for work. I'd opt for an outlying area such as Lordstown, Newton Falls, or Champion. I live 20 miles NOrth of Warren, avoid Warren after about 8 in the evening due to the crime and desperation of this city.

I don't think the crime in Warren is that bad. It's not any worse than from where I am coming from (Lorain), which is getting pretty bad. I stay every weekend in Warren and I am out after 8pm and nobody bothers me, it's actually kind of quiet. When I stop at a gas station or at a McDonalds, everyone is very friendly. I am looking forward to my move, which will be happening in early June. My kids are already enrolled in Warren City Schools and they are also excited. Not too happy that they might have to follow a strict dress code though.
