Does Warren have crime? Of course. Are there problems in the schools? Yes, but what school doesn't have problems? My parents both grew up in Warren in the 60's and graduated in the 70s. They still talk about the good old days. I grew up in suburban Cortland, which is pretty much all white, 2 parents in every house, and a lot of parents are involved w/what goes on at the school, which is great! I recieved a great education, but missed out on the diversity and programs that a bigger school system has to offer. When i went to Lakeview (Cortland), we didn't have tennis, swimming, german or italian classes. Warren has a lot more to offer someone who is trying to make the most of their high school experience. I'm not knocking Lakeview for not having those things, but i wish more people would give the Warren schools more credit. In fact, my girlfriend from high school (whose family for generations has gone to lakeview/cortland schools) moved to warren a few years ago and her daughter attends kindergarden at Lincoln, on the Eastside. She said at first she was concerned about the schools, but her daughter is doing well and she just loves her teacher. She also likes the fact that they are getting all new schools. The only problems she has encountered so far is a lack of children who are prepared for kindergarden and the lack of parental participation. Which i'm sure has a lot to do w/a single parent who has to work during the day, or parents that both have to work to get by. I do realize that there are also parents in warren, as there are anywhere that don't care to participate because they are on drugs, etc. I think it would be nice if some retirees in the area maybe volunteered to mentor/work w/the PTA to help these kids out. As for Warren itself, most neighborhoods are still very safe. Especially on the NE side of town. There are also some really great neighboorhood's throughout the rest of the city. Are there areas i would advise people to stay out of? Of course, but i don't think anyone should be scared to live there.

I am 71 years old and have lived in Warren all my life, I was born in Monroe,Mich. but my father had gone there to get work during the depression and as soon as thing were better we moved back to
Warren, other than 4 years in the AF I have spent my entire life in or in the immediate area around Warren. It was a beautiful city to live in at one time, but so much has changed over the years, it has changed, but im afraid, not for the best.

Do you feel Warren is a dangerous place to live? I bought a home on the NW side and should be moved in by the end of June. I feel safe everytime I am there.

Depends where you are on the NW side. I would be more concerned if you bought on the SW side, IMHO, the SW side is by far the worst part of town.

I am near Summit Ave. I've heard that the SW side was pretty bad.

Summit St. is not that great of an area. But i suppose it depends which part of summit. You can PM me if you have specific questions, i have never lived there, but do know the area pretty well.
