Does anyone know if Warren City Schools passed the proposed dress code for next year? I went on their website but it doesn't say.

Default NW side of Warren

Your post was a couple months ago so you've probably already moved, but I saw this and just had to say "I hope all is going well for you". I'm 42 years old, I grew up on the NW side of Warren. I went to Emerson Elementry, West Jr. Middle, & Western Reserve High schools. They were great schools then, the neighborhoods were safe, and the economy was good. My parents just moved from that house a couple years ago, much to the relief of my sisters & I. I feel bad for our old neighbors who couldn't afford to get out. The family that bought our house moved out and it sits vacant as do several others. I haven't been down that street in over a year. It's too heart breaking. The Mahoning Valley as a whole has been unable to recover from the steel mills closing sooo many years ago. GM & Delphi have been the major contributors to the areas livelihood. Delphi was such a vital driving force in the area and what has happened to those jobs was a hard hit. GM keeps us all wondering if it will stay. I feel my generation is the last to be able to bring home enough income to raise a family. I think all the "Check into Cash" type businesses that are popping up on what seems like every street corner is a testiment to the poor economic condition. I have 4 children, my oldest just finished his undergrad studies at KSU, I have two in high school, and one starting kindergarten in a few weeks. Unless I relocate to a financially stable area I'm confident I will not be able to watch my grandchildren (that I'm looking forward to having) grow up.

I finally finished moving all my things to Warren this past week. I know there are not too many jobs in this area. My husband installs satellites for Directv and his work is going good. I still don't think Warren is such a bad place to live. Better than Lorain so far. And I feel the city schools will probably be better than Lorain's schools too. Lorain just laid off almost 250 teachers. The elementary schools will not have gym, art, or music class. Yet, they are still planning to build 3 new school buildings. The crime rate is also increasing rapidly. I have lived there all my life and I am happy to leave. I'll give Warren a chance, if it doesn't work out, we'll just try somewhere else.

Is everything still going good for you? We are looking at moving in the area between Warren, No. Canton, Alliance and Salem. I found a RE listing for Warren that I really like. What do you have for grocery stores, Wal-Mart, etc. Thanks jc

Everything is going great. My kids started school yesterday(Warren City Schools), they really liked it. The teachers are really nice. So far, living in Warren has been better than we thought it would be. Especially with all the negatives you hear other people say about Warren.
The grocery stores I've been to are Giant Eagle, Sparkle, and Super K-Mart. There are alot of smaller grocery stores all around, but I haven't stopped in one yet. There is also an Aldis and Save-a-Lot. Warren does have a Walmart on Elm Rd and a K-Mart on Parkman Rd. There is a nice mall (Eastwood Mall) and shopping centers in Niles, few minutes away from Warren.
What part of Warren are you looking at? I am on the NW side.

Jackie,

There is a lot of shopping in the Warren area. Warren it's self has a few Giant Eagles, Walmart (soon to be super walmart), Big K-mart, and like most towns nowadays, plenty of Rite Aids and Walgreens. All the other shopping conviences you need are in Niles which is right next door. Like Dawn mentioned there is the www.eastwoodmall.com, also, many chain restaurants, local favorites, target, home depot, lowe's, Super Kmart, Aldi's, etc.
What is the zip code or street where you are looking? I maybe able to tell you if it is in a good area or not.
If you have anymore questions, just let us know! Good luck!

Does anyone know of any good meat markets in the Warren area? I've been looking for a place to buy fresh meats by the pound, not frozen, but I can't find any. I hate having to buy meats at Giant Eagle, etc. They are too expensive. I have a freezer and I like to stock up. I went to a place today in Youngstown called Anglins Thrif-T Meats and Produce. They did have fresh meats but I didn't care much for the store. My neighbor mentioned Geauga Farms, but that is kind of far, was hoping to find something closer to home.
