The biggest pros are a complete lack of traffic, beautiful autumns and generally low crime. A lot of people feel comfortable leaving their homes and cars unlocked. One caveat on the issue of crime is that there are an unusually high number of registered sex offenders living throughout the county and this has been true over the last few decades. For current stats, check with the local detective assigned to investigate sex crimes at the sheriff's department.
Some of the cons are a poor economy as a result of poor economic planning, lack of diversity and nearly nothing for children or youth. Morrow County voters are tight-fisted when it comes to supporting school levies and MR/DD services, especially the latter. In 2007, the county was dead last in the state for the amount of local funding for MR/DD and there is no Early Intervention program. Residents must travel out of county for E.I. services.
In Mount Gilead, students must pay to participate in school athletics ($200 for one sport at high school) and the curriculum has been reduced due to budget constraints. Spanish is the only foreign language offered (this may be true for the three other public districts; Cardington, Highland and Northmor) and there is no industrial arts program.
In my opinion, there are a number of local public officials who would not hold their positions if they lived in other communities. After living here for nearly two decades, I'm getting out next month and look forward to living somewhere with a stronger sense of community and professionalism.
I was born & raised & still live in MT.Gilead ohio for 52 years I LOVE IT HERE!!!.I would never dream of moving away from here.I see nonthing wrong with our town.True there are no jobs, but there are bigger towns near by you can go to.It is nice to know you can run into a store leave your car running it will(may) still be there when you go back out to it.Although I have never tried it yet,I love my car to much to take a chance. We do have a ymca now which is very nice, they have odd hours though.never opened when I would like to go. But I would not live any wehre else .It is a nice place to raise a family. Most all schoosl now you have to pay for any sports activity.Guess it depends on what you are looking for but I think we have agreat little town..We Have a great fire & Ems department, police department,The State highway department & County highway departments are the best during the winter months also!! Yes we have lost a lot of businesses down town but it may come back later.Compared to other towns we have a lot to be greatfull for.I am proud to have been born here &raised here by my loving parents.WE NEVER LOCKED OUR DOORS WHEN WE WENT AWAY ,in the 40 some years we lived right on South main st. thank you very much..

I can't speak for the city schools, or even for Northmor, but I do know kids and parents both are mighty proud of the Northmor schools. Morrow County, in general, is very rural. The biggest town is the capital seat of Mount Gilead and it's pretty small. Cardington even smaller and you could miss Marengo altogether if you blinked. Safe, friendly, and bucolic. I like the county hospital a lot, but there are very few doctors serving the area. Shopping is a half hour away on the east side of Marion or west side of Mansfield (actually Ontario). An easy commute to Columbus. Without a big city or big businesses, the county is tax poor. This means some high real estate taxes I'm afraid. And few services. Someone mentioned that the roads are well kept in Mount Gilead. But they sure aren't in the county. Many townships still have gravel roads. But at least they don't have the big potholes the paved roads do. Morrow County is almost always the first county to issue a level two or even three snow warning. They just can't clear the roads quickly enough. And I'm surprised they haven't run out of "Bridge Out" signs. If a bridge goes out, it stays out for years. You better know your way around living here, because you'll be detouring a lot! I assume there's little zoning in the county because you see a lot of modulars and some junky looking farms. Despite all it's downfalls, there's just something about this area that draws you to it. I know I've been looking for a place there for quite some time. Just haven't found the "one" yet. If you're a little bit country, I think you'll like it here.

Edited to add that I didn't realize how old this thread was. The op posted their request nearly three years ago!
