[quote=Slash83;5797273]I hate to admit it - but this state is slowly becoming democratic.

Wonder why? Maybe after 8 years of being RED and the state basically imploding with unemployment (especially the Northeastern sector) people think enough is enough....

Change can be a good thing....I can't imagine it possibly getting any worse than it is now. Obviously to me, and many of my friends still at home, a change is needed.

Don't be so pessimistic in regards to a change coming and quite frankly being very needed...give it a chance...at the end of 4 years....see if many Ohioans end up being better off than they are now.

Very few people in Ohio are better off now than they were 8 years ago.

Are you trying to say unemployment in the "rust belt" wasn't already going up before 2001? Have you ever considered it may be the policies in Columbus, and not Washington? Like the OP said, if Bush has done such a horrible job then why have many parts of the country been thriving the last eight years (even though we went through 9/11)?

The Rust Belt economy's been tanking since the double digit unemployment of the early eighties (that would be the Reagan Era, boys and girls, for those of you who weren't around for it).Hence the growth of the Sunbelt states-- all the Yankees moving south to find jobs (and discovering they needed at least two to maintain any standard of living they'd grown accustomed to Up North, because without the competition of Union jobs, non-union ones have no incentive to pay above minimum).

Conversely, in Florida the economy has been thriving lo these last 30 years because they were paving every square inch of the state to accommodate those Yankee transplants. Well, until they weren't, because the infrastructure wasn't present and because of massive overbuilding. Oops. The economy here has been a shell game, just waiting to go bad, and boy howdy, has it.

This is a good point. Columbus has been controlled by the GOP since, when, the early 1990s? So 15 or more years of GOP control...governor ..two Republican governors...and legislature, setting policy, including urban policy.

So the track record of GOP governance in Ohio is quite weak, if the economic situation is any indication. And one would thing taxes would at least be lower here.

Columbus has the advantage of basically being Columbus, the capital city of OH. Money will always stay local in this case, D or R. It's the locales throughout OH that have not fought hard enough for the $ that could be spread amongst the state. Look how Columbus attracts white collar jobs, heavy state government etc.

Oh! Im sorry, i meant Columbus as a metaphor for state government...the legislature and governors office and departments, sort of the way "Washington" is a metaphor for the Federal government. Not Columbus the city.

Default Loss of jobs in ohio

The Republicans have had 8 years to help Ohio jobs. Where are the jobs??? Mexico, Honduras, Dominican Republic among others. I am a registered Republican but have had it with jobs moving out of the country. I FEEL IT IS TIME FOR A CHANGE. GO OBAMA/BIDEN
