Thoughts on Lebanon?
Hello, all. I just searched the Ohio forum for info on Lebanon. There didn't seem to be a lot of mention of it, but what there was seemed very positive.
I am going to be putting in for a job there (a dream job for me) and, while I am not sure how much competition there will be for the position, I have high hopes that I might be considered for it.
I would love to hear anyone's opinions on the Lebanon area. Schools, crime, cost of living, etc.
Of course, I looked at the city-data data, but that's a bit out of date and it's always good to hear from people with first-hand experience.
Thanks in advance for any advice or thoughts, and wish me luck!
PS-- by the way, what's the political climate there? Is it overwhelmingly conservative/pro-Bush?

Lebanon is the county seat of Warren County, and is a very pleasant older town, with a lot of newer development outside of town. It should be a fairly low-crime area. Generally speaking the place is considered fairly desirable. The schools should be OK, and crime would be low.
As is true for most suburban areas in the US the political climate is quite conservative, which is esp. the case for Warren County as this has traditionally been a Republican county since the time of Lincoln. I wouldn't let politics dissuade you from moving to the town, as it is a fairly nice place.
One of the nice things about Lebanon is thay you are midway beween Dayton and Cincinnati, so can partake of the offerings of these two metro areas.

Good luck, Griffis! I really hope you get your dream job. I live in Lebanon, and I really like it. Historic downtown is very quaint, and they have festivals there all year round. Home of the Golden Lamb - Ohio's oldest inn where numerous Presidents have spoken and stayed. If you have ever seen the movie 'Milk Money' with Ed Harris and Melanie Griffith, the 'small town' scenes were shot in Lebanon. The Village Icecream Parlor is especially prominent in that movie, although I don't think you see its name. Basically, Lebanon has a small town feel, but is still close enough to the city that you don't miss out on anything.
Anyway, if you have any other questions you can PM me, and I'll try to help out however I can!

I also live in Lebanon. I have lived here for around 16 years.
The schools are good. Or were were many moons ago when I went)
You have heard right Lebanon is very conservative.
The crime is very low. Most of the problems are very minor. Such as kids playing pranks, or domestic issues.
Over all Lebanon is a nice peaceful town.
It has grown a lot since I moved here though.
Good luck with the job
Have a Nice Day
Rick

I'm in Lebanon too, I lived here for about 35 years. Things were much better years ago before all the runaway development.
I am also one of the few Libertarians in town, so we are not all brown shirts after all.

I found Lebanon to be a weird little town over 35 years ago. I was just living back there last year - found it to be even weirder. The downtown area is nice to look at and some of the new construction is finally putting it in some sort of logical order. As far as town-support goes, it's very antiquated - they don't take care of their people very well for this day and age - but many older towns in Ohio/PA have that same "feel". Still a step ahead of Indiana, I think. I would definitely stay with Mason or Maineville in that particular area ... and drop by Lebanon now and then for some shopping ... although they don't have a lot of that either. Plenty of fast-food and a great retirement community a couple of miles west of town.
