My opinion on a "boom" in population is Southern Ohio is this. While I don't have experience in all parts of southern Ohio I do have a little on parts. I currently live in Logan and I have seen a huge influx of people. The opening of the 33 bypass around Lancaster has now turned the drive to Columbus for work under 1 hour. Some of you that have lived or are living in this area should agree. Think back just 10 years ago at what Logan, Lancaster, and even Canal Winchester looked like. These places now have almost everything. With the completion of the Nelsonville bypass into Athens I look for even more people to move into these areas. While yes most drive to Columbus for work they are more willing to do so because of these new roads. I used to sit in rush hour traffic for 1hr driving from Westerville to Grove City some days......so the drive to Logan isn't all that different at least to me. While Logan will never be a Columbus or even a Athens the new "roads" into Columbus have forever changed these communities. Just imagine if St Rt 35 was a 4 lane all the way from Chillicothe to the river.

More millionaires reside in Gallia County then any other place in Ohio. When they are gone perhaps the next generation will be less greedy. The economic future is bleak. To Bad because its really a wonderful place to live and housing costs are the lowest to be found anywhere except the desert waste lands. The work at home folks should consider this location. The area is the most beautiful along the vast Ohio river especially in the summer.
Are you sure about that? I find it hard to believe considering the county is 31,000 people and the median income is only $35,000.

Bowerston is in Harrison County, and Carrollton reminded us of a small Cleveland/Akron. We are looking at Freeport in Harrison, and have been extremely happy with the people of this small, less-than-400 people village....I would like to see that data on the ignorance & drugs use in the area if you have it....

There is no shortage of general ignorance. Lots of the good olde boys are a bit what I might call Slack Jawed. Hollywood is missing a bet, they pay folks to act like that, when the real McCoy is available for peanuts all over the area.

Some of these boys are more like unemployed racing car drivers. Maybe unemployed for a reason, some of them have a bit of trouble keeping it on the road. (Chuckle)

Can be a different World. Sure there are drugs around but it tends to be a different culture too. Not that much street crime to go with it compared to many other places. Could be the ignorance or could be the account of Slack Jawed but you have to accept it for what it is. Good olde boys are friendly enough. You really can't judge it from far away or a short stay. It is what it is. Lots of times I am reminded of America in the 50's. It is more like times past that most any other places I can think of. In particular most places in the USA. You get the good with the bad.

SE Ohio is not the same county to county. Lots of variations to the mix. Some of it hidden, some of it not. Lots of places don't go git'n above your rais'n.

The one area of Bowerston is in Carroll County. We lived there for 5 months. We were burglarized 2 times in 2 months and the Sheriff of Carroll County mentioned the drug problems they have in those areas down there so you see I'm not being hard on the place, it's not a place I'd ever live again or recommend to anyone. But when you fear leaving your house and being gone a couple hours because of some scumbags who don't know what it is to work it's pretty sad!

The line that crosses over into Harrison County is very close. I didn't need the sign to tell me we were entering Harrison County because their roads were always better cleared of the snow then Carroll County side.

We went to Gnadenhutten which is about 3 miles away from Freeport, as well as all of those little towns in through there. Alot of the places are the "blink your eye and they're gone" type. We have the same thing here in Alaska with some very small communities.

As far as data, did you google the crime stats? I found some below as well as info on Freeport. It seems most stats are from the year 2000. As far as "ignorance" - something you'll need to check out and decide for yourself.

Have you eaten at the Ponderosa in Carrollton? If you have give me info on what you thought as I won't say anything to make a comparison....yet.
