I didn't realize Vienna was a country. I thought it was a sausage.

My personal favorite is Bellefontaine. That kills out-of-staters, many of whom are unable to swallow vowels with as much panache.
What the hell does aching pans have to do with this discussion?

Or did you mean pancakes?

Would you like to hook up in "Bell-fountain" sometime?

So long as none of you pronounce in Cin-cin-nat-UH. That one grinds me the most. There's no "uh" or "ah" at the end of the name.

And yes, it's LYMA.....which is making me hungry for some beans. They're quite good with butter and salt.

the only slight similarity between vienna, austria and vienna, ohio revolves around airports. vienna, austria has a world-class airport with it's name. vienna, ohio has the youngstown-warren airport, which is just kind of there.

Ditto. Don Wayne, the iconic anchor for WHIO-TV in Dayton, said "Cincinnatuh" all the time, as well as "Miamuh Valley". Drove me insane!

Wanna go out for pancakes? I've never been to Bellefontaine, actually. Road trip! But I have been to Wapakoneta.

This whole post is hilarious! Yes, it's LYMA..did anyone ever see Conspiracy Theory with Mel Gibson and Julia Roberts...at one point she says she's from LEEMA ohio and I cracked up laughing...those hollywood people certainly didn't do their research!

Here's more...Houston OH is pronounced HOW-ston, and Maria Stien is pronounced mariah-stein, one word.

Oh yeah.....Delhi is pronounced "Dell-high", not "deli".

Mariemont is pronounced "Mary-mont".

And though it's not in Ohio, Maryville Tennessee is pronounced "Mare-uh-vul"...or sometimes just "Mar-vul", depending on personal preference. BTW, it's located in Blount county...pronounced "blunt".

Being from Ohio originally, I have always heard it pronounced as the bean, and it's how I pronounce it.

Lima is pronounced LYMA...hence its nickname "bean town".

Pronunciations crack me up too! Some of the above listed towns I just shrugged off and didn't even think they would really be said differently. Funny!

MGbuckeye is on a distinguished road
It is upperSandusky because it is located on the upper part of the Sundusky river. The river flows north to to lake Erie. Rivers flowing north is strange to me since all the rivers around me flow south into the Ohio river.

Yes, Lima, like the bean. Certainly not Lima, like Peru. Apparently the city Berlin, is not said like that of Germany, but instead BER-lin.

And then there is directionality. Upper Sandusky is south of and no where near Sandusky, right?

You crazy Ohioans.... And is it "Ohi O ans" or "Ohi-ens"???

As I've said I am a Michigander, definately not a MIchiganian.

AHH!! It's def "Ohi O ans", not "Ohi-ens"! Ha ha, well maybe it depends where you're from. When I leave Ohio & go to other places people always make fun of me for my long pronouced vowels. Ther are a few that bother me.... Medina. We pronounce it Mah-dina... not Meh-deena. And I grew up around a road named Boettler.... People call it bott-ler but it's really Bett-ler. Many confusing things in Ohio!!!
