Roanoke, Va To Wooster Ohio, should We?
Dear Htlong, Thanks For The Response. Rubbermaid Pulled Out Of Wooster Several Years Ago And So Went Alot Of Jobs! Concerned About Their Overall Economy And Quality Of Life. How Do You Know Roanoke? Did You Live Here And Leave? Yea, They Just Refurbished That Big Ole Star And It Shines Nightly....we Know Its Cold As He-- There In Wooster, But What About That Lake Effect Cloudiness, Sounds Depressing... Anything For Teenagers To Do? Is Baseball Strong In Their High Schools,we Are A Big Baseball Family.... Thanks! "ikuout", Thats Baseball Lingo For I Strike You Out...

Wooster is a great town, it is very close to Amish Country so many things to do. One of the best county fairs in Ohio by my standards. Many farms still in the area so lots of farm animals, equipment, flowers etc... The Ohio State Agriculture Station is there as part of an Aboretum and has great events for children and adults. Ohio is cloudy, but more so near Lake Erie. Affordable well built homes and a nice town center. Wooster College is also located in town. New shops are entering the downtown area. Great libraries as well

Wooster, ohio
Thanks macbunny! Do you live there presently? Hows the baseball? Triway or Wooster high school? Are the locals accepting of new folks(non natives?) The housing looks good and relatively cheap? Anything much for the teenage set to do? Thanks for your help, we need all we can get! IKUOUT

Well, I am in Ohio about 25 miles north of there. My family back to 1825 is from there. So the roots are deep. The people are friendly, but that is from my Ohio perspective lol. I often here that we Ohioans are not openly friendly.. but inside we are... I would say Wooster High School from past knowledge, but best to look it to it yourself. Not a clue about what a teenage could do there, except for the great Arboretum hiking trails. I am a big gardener and outdoors woman so mainly keep track of those activities.
I wish you luck in your search. I am presently looking at relocating to the DC area and am very unsure, so am in the same boat as you indeciding where to live etc...

We live in Wayne County, 15 minutes away from Wooster. Wooster is the "capital" or "seat" of Wayne County.
As far as the weather, I can comment on that the winters are cold, although I don't feel that they're as snowy or icy as in the past (I've lived in Ohio since 1968, barring a few years out west in S. CA). January and February are traditionally cold. The coldness is not what bothers me, but yes, the lack of sunlight on a daily basis tends to wreck havoc on these that suffer with Seasonal Affective Disorder: Winter Depression. I really never felt the affects of it until I hit my late 30's. I'm 44 now. I know personally a lot of people that are not affected by it, and many that are. It is real.
After you get past the winter weather, the rest of the year is absolutely beautiful; we've had some pretty hot summers lately, a lot of humidity at times. Mosquitos can be a problem with the West Nile virus alerts at time.
As far as what teen-agers do; many are involved in sports. There are other things to do as well; I do know that sports seem to play a dominant role in Ohio. (We have 7 children, ages 23 down to 5), so I know a little bit about this. I think that people will be very nice; they are down to earth, and you will definitely enjoy safety. There are various types of farms in Wooster (and Wayne County), you can listen to the daily farm report if you wish. There is the Wayne County fair in Wooster. It's normally in September; Wayne County schools are off the Monday of the week of the fair, and children are admitted free.
It is really hard to know what others will like or won't like because one man's of paradise could be another's idea of h*ll. I really am not exagerating.
Whatever you decide to do, I do think that Wooster is a good city. Like I said, it is the county seat; the schools are good. Good luck with everything.

Wooster ohio, should we?
Thanks Donna7 for your insight! Roanoke Va weather is to mild and sunny alot, dont know about all that cloudiness! Not into the whole farm scene, esp. the teenagers.Any good shopping for teens, any rec. centers within a reasonable distance? Do people accept outsiders? Altho we are coming from Va. we are natives of Nh, lived there 40 years before moving to Va( for 9 years). No southern accents for us! Lots of cheap housing out that way, are people leaving the area, or is it growing? Thanks for any insight!! ikuout
