West Virginia Mountaineer or Ohio Buckeye
Which state would you prefer to live in and why?
Answer this only if you have lived in boths states
or have family who has or does.

I grew up in Belpre, Ohio which is right across the river from Parkersburg, West Virginia.
No question I prefer Ohio. Nothing wrong with WV, it is actually a very nice state.
I prefer large cities and WV doesn't have any. Ohio has the 3C's, Toledo, Akron, Dayton, etc.
If one wanted to be in a more rural area then WV would be a great place to live.

Gotribe, I'm guessing that, if only people that have lived in both WY AND OH or their relatives answer, your responses would be very few. Now, I've never lived in WV (I live in OH) but I've seen a good bit of WV and I really like what I see. I'm happy here in OH. But, given the right situation, I would not hesitate to relocate to WV. From what I've seen, WV is far more than the backwards "hillbilly" state that the people who have never been there want to describe it as. WV has one of America's premier resorts, the Greenbriar Hotel in Hot Sulphur Springs. It also has many wonderful outdoor recreational possibilities as other tourist destinations; White water rafting and (if your heart can stand it; bungee jumping from tall bridges ) I'd love to get a closer look at WV histoy, as well.
I guess my problem is that I've lived in so many different places that I could easily make myself at home in either state. I don't really prefer one over the other, but we like living here in OH.

There are actually a lot of people from West Virginia that live in my area.........only they moved up here in the 60s and 70s to work at the steel mills, GM, and Packard Electric here in Warren. In fact, i think most people that live in my area are originally from western Pa or West Virginia w/some native Youngstown/Warren people mixed in.

Cortland Girl I did the oposite and went from Trumbull County OH to Randolph County WV
I have ran into a lot of people who went to Ohio for jobs in the 60's and 70' and have either moved back or still reside in Ohio. I would be interested in hearing from people in that area if any of them read this blog...Thanks

My paternal grandparents moved to Ohio from West Union, WV in the early 1950's. It might have been 1950, when they lost everything they had in the big flood, I'm not sure.
They moved to the Canton area, and have stayed (more or less) since. They did move to Gnadenhutten, Oh. for a couple years in the early 90's, and I remember Grandma commenting that she liked living where she could see hills again. But I think they wanted to be closer to family (and good hospitals) so they moved back to Stark county in the mid 90's.

We've had a few posters from Trumbull County (besides me of course) before, but they don't seem to stick around..........either that or they just read and don't post. When i first signed on to CD i mostly read posts instead of commenting.

Well considering Cuyahoga County almost has as many people as the entire state of WVU, I'll stay put. I like big cities, and Ohio has 6 cities with 200,000 plus.. with A LOT more to do. I've never really liked West Virginia, it's just not appealing at all.
And WV does have VERY hillbilly and backwards areas. If you dispute that, you are very oblivious. I mean, the state does have nice areas.
