My lovely lady is from Mt. Vernon! Not sure what the schools are like nowadays, but I certainly think she turned out great

Mt. Vernon itself is a charming little town. Very vibrant downtown for a city its size. Many antique stores, Sips Coffeehouse (a must-visit!) and even an old opera house they're still figuring out how best to restore, are all features of the downtown area.

Mt. Vernon does not have an enclosed mall (in case you're into that) but it has a more suburban-type commercial area out along U.S. 36 east. Speaking of which...access to Mt. Vernon is by U.S. and state routes only, as the nearest Interstate (71) is several miles away. This is kinda nice really; it cuts down on outta-control growth and sprawl. Also perhaps for this reason, Mt. Vernon has more of a self-contained economy than similar towns further in toward Columbus. It's not a commuter town, but more like a "micropolitan" area in its own right.

Mt. Vernon strikes me as a wonderful place to raise a family!

In nearby Gambier is Kenyon College, one of the snootiest and most expensive private universities in the Midwest. It's also among the weirdest (very New Agey, like the '60s never ended). But it's nicely offset by the presence of Mt. Vernon Nazarene University, a solid institution of higher learning located right in Mt. Vernon itself.

Hope this is a start for ya
