I have family in Navarre, and I love the little town. Everyone I've met there is nice, but I'm related to them.

I don't know much about the schools. My little cousin attends Fairless Local, and I haven't heard any complaints.

Here's a photo tour I made, after Thanksgiving, for another site:

While home this holiday, I was able to walk around the small village of Navarre, in western Stark county, where some family lives.

The Nickles bakery is headquartered here, and they still produce goods. (They were in operation Friday, and the smell of fresh pastries and bread was fantastic. )

In fact, they recently expanded their facilities.

Here is historic Rochester Square. (my little cousin doesn't understand why they call it "Rochester Square" when it's clearly a triangle)

Leaving the square:

These brick sidewalks are fairly common.

Here's the business district along Canal Street.

I didn't realize that there was a sign for this building until after I got back home and started to review the pictures.

I hope you enjoyed this little tour. I'm sure there is a lot that I've missed. And, I didn't even touch on the canal history. (mostly because I don't know much about it)

Wow! That was great! Love your pictures. It looks like a nice area, and I love the buildings and houses. Do you know if the people in the town are friendly, welcome new people?
Thanks for posting your pictures.

Glad you liked the pics.

I think the people would be nice. I've never heard anyone say anything negative about new people moving in.

Having grown up in Canton/Massillon area, I have been to both many times, and actually lived in Navarre for a short time.

Depending on where you are working, I say Navarre is the better bet. It is closer to a number of highways, closer to stuff to do, yet has a nice small town feel. When I lived back home, I always really liked Navarre

I'm curious about how you're making out with considering these towns for your move? My wife & I will be visiting several small towns north of Dover, Ohio next week (not too far off I-77).

Does anybody know of any amateur astronomy groups in Tuscarawas County?

Actually, most of my family has gone to Fairless, including me and I pressure you to do you r research! My senior year (2005) they FINALLY made World History a requirement for graduation and, just a heads up, in my entire educational career in the district, none of my social studies classes got deep enough into our text books to reach World War II!!! There are, also, very few AP classes offered at the high school level. I will say though, that our teachers really seemed to enjoy teaching. But, there didn't seem to be many standards. So, just look up real records of the schools in the area,...and... actually, St.Marys may be a better bet for your children. We are good people, and we don't mind new neighbors, thats great! We'd love you down this way! But, do your research on schools, Fairless is sub par AND, if you do decide its up to standards, let me beg you, for the sake of your childrens health, PACK THEIR LUNCH!!!!!
