Ugh. Chillicothe's economy is NOT based on Wal-mart. We didn't even have one until 2000 or so. Sheesh. Walmart has 211 employees, while Adena Regional Medical Center and Kenworth have 1700 each.

I grew up in Chillicothe, and while it has it's share of people that fit in the small town Appalachian stereotype, there are others who are brilliant, engaging and talented.

As far as commuting, my aunt does it daily for a job on the south side of Columbus. She thinks it's worth it, but it's hard on her. That's a LOT of miles, and a lot of time. If you're in love with Chillicothe, go for it. Otherwise, consider something a little closer, but still rural, like Marysville or Circleville.

I like Chillicothe. I purchased my car at Hernstein dealership there in 2007 and my husband and I drive there every three months to get the oil change. I like how you are only an hour from Columbus if you want to get out and head to the big city but you live in an area that you feel safe and secure. The only drawback like others have said is the smell from the paper plant. If you can deal with the smell (which as others have said you will get use to after a while) I would say go for it! Good luck with whatever you decide!!
