I have heard that propety owners are allowed to use the lakes. Aqua Ohio was just advertising the two charity fishing events that they have every year. They said that there is no horsepower limit, but the entire lake is a no wake zone. They are also careful about not being contaminated with Zebra mussels.

Thanks CortlandGirl and pasharon...I've officially put Mosquito on my "check it out" list

So I have to tell you this, since I'm sure it's clear how frustrated I am to have 2 nice lakes REALLY close to me (Evans and Hamilton) that can't be used....

The kids and I love hiking the trails in the Poland Forest as well as Boardman Park. We've seen a little parking lot at the edge of Struthers with a sign that says "Yellow Creek Park"...driven past it many times in fact. Since that's even closer to where we live, we decided to investigate once and for all. So we park our car and proceed on the trail (there's actually trails across the street...we figured out where those led later, lol). So we follow this trail for quite some time, cross the creek water 3 different times (it's kinda high, no less), and we eventually stumble onto a huge dam and a hill to climb. Wanna take a guess what was at the top of that hill? Yep, Lake Hamilton, lol.

We spot a couple guys fishing right where we came up to the lake, and the conversation went something like this:

Me: "Hey there...you guys catch anything today?"
Them: "Yeah, we got a few nice ones"
Me: "Hey, that's great! So, umm...do you think you could help us get unlost?"

So they recommended we just go back the way we came, but that's just unacceptable for us. So instead, we take a short trail right along the lake that led to a street that led us back to our parked car. But while we were on that path...wow! There's some beautiful green clearings right up on the water that were just beautiful. Of course, EVERY tree has a sign on it reminding us that we're trespassing on private property (not intentionally, mind you!), but the kids and I had to just sit for a few minutes and enjoy the view...while wondering why on earth the local water company doesn't want anyone to be able to enjoy this. What a shame...

Hey, finallygreen, if the kids like hiking trails you might want to check out Mill Creek Park, lots of trails, a couple lakes and tons of things to do (ie golf, short holes, basketball, fellows riverside gardens, tennis, etc.). Nelson ledges might be an option as well. Mosquito has a campground and walking trails, so if you're looking to make a weekend of it you can stay overnight. Let us know how it goes!
