Hey Northwest Ohio! Where do you ski?
I live in Findlay and this week drove the 5+ hours to Boyne, MI for the best skiing ever.... And man it was worth it!
But I have little kids and wonder if here, in the flatlands of Northwest OH, there is any place that I could make a short drive to, so that my kids can learn to ski. (Obviously, I am looking forward to next winter's ski season.)

Living in Findlay you are actually quite fortunate - Mad River Mountain is relatively close to you, although it is much smaller, I think it's nearly as good as Boyne Mountain. Additionally, Mad River has the terrain park which is great for snowboarding, and they have the midnight madness where the whole mountain is lit up at night and the prices come down.
I went to undergrad at ONU and had a season pass for 2 years and it was well worth it.
Since you have kids you may want to check out the tubing park at Mad River also.

You could check out Mad River at Bellefontaine. I believe it is along US 33. Here is a link to their website.

Mt. Brighton is where we used to go ski sometimes when I lived in Waterville and it was closer than Boyne....2-3 hours I believe?? That was 30+ years ago, so I don't even know if that is still a ski resort.

Aren't there some ski resorts just NW of Columbus? I know in NE Ohio they have Bradywine and Alpine resorts.

Never heard of Alpine. There is Boston Mills which is down the road from Brandywine.
