Toledo has had 8 murders this year, and three in the last 5 days. There are two more victims that are currently in critical condition secondary to either gunshots or beatings, so that could increase to 9 or 10 in the next few days from violence that occurred this last weekend.
That's 2.5 murders/100,000 population using the revised census figure of 316,000 people in the city. If the trend holds then Toledo will be in the 20-30 range for the year and a rate of roughly 7.5/100,000.

No, youre thinking of this year when we had 5 homicides in 1 day (not 1 weekend).
5 in 1 weekend is uncommon for Cleveland, but it does happen. I would say several times a year at least.

I still think you're wrong. It is very unusual.
Northeast Ohio homicides Cleveland Ohio Statistics & Demographics | Data Central - cleveland.com
We're over a third of the way through the year and there still is not ANY two day period (weekend or otherwise) with more than TWO homicides in Cleveland other than the quintuple homicide. I'm not saying it has never happened, but I'd be willing to guess not more than about once every 20 years.

1st off you have to realize that that link on Cleveland.com is missing about 10 homicides. Im not sure if there has been anything like that this year besides those 5 people killed in 1 day, but we have had about 42 homicides so far this year in Cleveland, on pace to hit 120 again.
2nd, since 2001 there has been 20 times when 3 or more people were killed in Cleveland in a day. Here is a link about it here from 2 months ago when the 5 people were killed in 1 day: Cleveland's deadliest days in recent history - Metro - cleveland.com
10 people were killed in 1 day in 2005, 4 people in 1 day in 2006, 7 people in 1 day in 2007, etc.
Im not saying it happens all the time, but once every 20 years? no, try several times a year on average.

Where do you get your count of 42 from? This forum? Like the one posted the other day where someone from Lorain was convicted of a homicide commited in 2006? Sorry, but that doesn't count for 2009. And if you post the article next year, it won't count for 2010 either.
And didn't we already discuss the fact that the quintuple homicide earlier this year was one incident?

OK, so once every 20 years may be off. But how do you read that article and obtain "several times per year". There have been 4 times this has happen in the last 8 years! That's not several times per year by my mathematical calculations. And one of those is the quintuple homicide we have already discussed. Two of the other 3 were arsons, which unfortunately usually take multiple lives as part of one incident. So I surely wouldn't say this is out of line with what happens in other cities, and doesn't point to such a high number of incidents that 5 homicides in a weekend is "common" or happens "several time a year". Of course there is too much crime and the goal is always to reduce it, but exaggerating it doesn't do any justice to the problem either.

The Virginia Tech massacre is alot different than the domestic situation that happened in Cleveland a few months back and Im sorry if I made Cleveland out to be some violent city where mass murders take place everyday, but Im only saying that Toledo hasn't seen that many in one weekend in separate incidents in a while. And actually I stand corrected, it was 3 in one weekend with 2 in the hospital.

jam40jeff, the 42 number comes from only homicides this year. I dont know the exact number for Cleveland, but Im positive it is between 38 and 44 for the city of Cleveland. Noone is counting stuff from other years, I posted that article because it was new and I believe the man was finally charged and sentenced for that crime, that thread is for more than just homicides this year in Cleveland, but the count only obviously only includes homicides this year.
Im not exaggerating crime on here at all. I have no idea where youre getting that from. What Im saying is that there has been 20 times in the past 8 years where 3 or more people were killed in 1 day, so Im sure that several of those days there were 4-5 or more people killed in 1 day and 1-2 or more people killed in the day before or after it.
You are the one that seems to be in denial about the crime problem here in and around Cleveland. Of course 5 or more people killed in 2-3 days is not common, but it does happen and much more often than "once every 20 years" as you put it, on average weve seen it once a year if not several times a year. Were averaging about 120 homicides per year the last few years, its not that hard to believe.
