No need to apologize, you are most welcome to speak your opinion, with respect, and you did. I'm glad you got to where you need to be, to be happy.

Here's an example of bad judgment by city leaders. There's basically one park in the city. People go to walk etc. The City decides to put an elementary school on the park land, taking up about half of it.

On top of that, it's on a 4 lane connector intended as a efficient route between US22 and the mall. There's nothing wrong with that of course..... it's that it's now designated a "school zone" (though no kids walk anywhere near the road) with speed reduction. They then cut off one lane going downhill to the school causing a bottleneck(it's a rather steep grade). The whole point of the road was to be a 4 lane road to move traffic, then they go and make a bottleneck out of it. Dumb dumb dumb!

Make a right turn lane? No.... we'll just cut off one of the two lanes and make that the right turn lane. (North John Scott across Sunset)

This is so Steubenville. No planning.... no forethought.

If you are looking for Mayberry in Steubenville, you will find it anyplace west of
Brady Avenue.
If you are looking for Dodge City circa 1873 in Steubenville, you can find it in PARTS
of labelle, pleasant hgts and downtown.

The smaller outlying towns of Jefferson County are quite low-crime.

Across the Ohio River is one of the lowest-crime areas in America. It is Follansbee WV.
Follansbee has a population that is one out of three of Italian descent. They do not
put up with crime in their midst.

I did some Alltel work in Steubenville last week (sorry to those affected from 11am-4am) and couldn't help but notice how great the women looked.

Steubenville isn't that bad. I lived there for 20 years and personally had no issues with crime. I spent most of my time downtown and the rest of it in Pleasant Heights. In those days I wasn't exactly hanging out with the best crowd, but I only ever saw/ heard of crime around me; maybe I was just lucky.

Now I live in Philadelphia and I'm much happier. The economy isn't exactly "bustling" here, but it's 100% better than Steubenville. Philly sure does have it's crime areas, but not nearly as dense as it is in Steubenville. When I first moved here I was living in the area of Kensington, aka "The Badlands". It looked like downtown Steubenville only with more business and less crazy people wandering the streets. I was initially worried that I had gotten myself into the same old crap as before, but then I moved into a better neighborhood and I've really grown to love the city. I think if Steubenville(the city itself) was larger, not as many people would talk about the crime. But the city borders don't extend too far, and there aren't exactly too many nice neighborhoods to move into, especially for a renter. Wintersville is nice and right there, I don't understand why the people with crime issues just don't hop over to there. It's only 5 minutes away.

I really hope that one day soon the politics around the city change. I would like to see the city rise and develop into something. I wish someone with the funds and how-to could see the potential.

As happy as I am now, I sure do miss Steubenville costs. Now I split a decent sized 2 bedroom apartment at $1800/ month (split half & half). For that much money in Ohio I could be paying mortgage on a mansion with a pool. But would I want to??

im sorry but ive lived in steubenville my entire life and i think everybody putting steubenville down is terrible. yes downtown steubenville is probably not the best place to be and if you see it it looks terrible as well but most people that live here dont consider downtown as steubenville. I live almost in wintersville in an area of million dollar homes. no one locks there doors and no one breaks in and kills us. as for the wutang clans headquartes behing here? doubt it. only one member of the wutang clan is from steubenville and his father still lives here and they happen to be one of the nicest non gang families around. the wu tang clan is a rap group and they just put on they front of being criminal for show. i havent gone through all 9 pages of this so dont know what other people are saying but steubenville is definataly not as bad as it seems. if you live in steubenvile and work in pittsburgh your probably wouldnt have it any other way

Steubenville is a WASTE. It has so much potential and yet...its a wasteland. We have RIVER front land and yet we offer NO river based festivals. LOOK at wheeling! if it's not the sternwheel fest, its the italian fest, or the city of arts fest, or the vintage boat race! We have NO community activites.
Sure our schools are NEW, but talk to any teacher or school nurse and they will tell you to check your child's head for LICE everyday...not a uncommon problem in schools in general BUT the amount that runs thru the Steubenville school district is off the charts, The nurse will tell you she frequently sends home children infested only to get them back just as infested because parents don't care.
SURE we have hospitals...that MOST...and I mean MOST people will tell you that they would rather bleed to death enroute to Pittsburgh that be a patient at Trinity. Our local Mall is excitied to gain the social security office and a dental lab....I am sorry but is this a SHOPPING mall or an office complex?? The mall can pretty much be summed up as a recuriting station for the military, a social security office, a dental lab, a rent to own, 5 jewelry places and a hairsalon....it's awful. Forget about the POLICE ...you will not see them if your not in the ghetto, and don't try to call them if you need anything because it's not worth their time. I had an officer scream at me over the phone when I needed a report for our home break in. OHHH thats right..we LIVE in the GOOD section of Steubenville...on the Wintersville line and our home was broken into...the cop didnt even leave his car when he arrived an hour later...but maybe I am dreaming cause everyone on here seems to think that nothing bad happens anywhere but downtown (yeah right) I currently share my neighborhood with a drug dealer who the cops let do as he pleases because his father is a retired cop...so he is off limits (so says my neighbor ,who is a cop) If you like having 3 choices for dinner if you want to eat out in Steubenville then this is the place for you. Oh and forget a late dinner because the city shuts down at 8. The city goverment is a joke. You better know somebody or your not going to ever get anything accomplished here. I KNOW ..I OWN a bussiness here and it's been like pulling teeth since day one! Not to mention anytime you call downtown expect the person on the line to tell you what forms you need to get permits ONLY to arrive to find they forgot to mention a couple forms...It's a wasteland...stay far ...far...far....far AWAY!

And for the record..let's squash the WU-TANG rumor, back in High School I wasn't on the right side of the fence and I know all these people. WU-TANG is NOT a gang..its a rap group. A couple members are from here, most of their family is still here, one was killed recently, you can see the graffti on our buildings to prove that...but mainly you can just say that some WU -TANG members are from here.

And we are the drug transport capitol...as you might know we are the center mile mark for drugs between detroit and miami....and you also can note that in our news as we have many detroit druggies killed downtown....

Steubenville is a wasteland.

Default Steel town that died

I was born and raised in Steubenville, Ohio. My father was a pharmacist who owned his own drug store. (BELL AND STEEL) I went to a catholic school all of my life and I had a very happy and content child hood. I wanted for nothing. I left when I was 31 after I got married. I feel so sad that this once thriving little town has went down hill. Please do not leave negative comments about this town if you have never lived there. No, there are no jobs, yes the mills are dying but I have some of the most best memories of my childhood from living in Steubenville.

Default I agree

I lived there until I was 31 and I had the best childhood. Yes there is a lot of pollution but that told us that the town was thriving from the steel mills. I really miss DiCarlos Pizza and all of the festivals.
