Lightbulb A different approach to this age old question.

Ok, well let's reverse engineer that question. What did you used to do in NY for fun?

BTW, were you from Upstate or NYC per chance?

Hey, thanks for the reply. I used to go to hardcore shows in the area, watch the SU games once in a while with my sister, and watch horror/cult movies, which are my fave.

Ok, this is a little more challenging than your typical restaurant/public place rap, but let's see if any of this helps. Mind you, I'm from Findlay, and do little travel to Tiffin, but the two cities (and those I'll direct you to) aren't horribly far apart.

Live Music Events:
1.) If I hear there's a hardcore show going on, I automatically think it's going to be at Howard's Club Hell in Bowling Green (BG). It's located at 210 N. Main St. Here's the werbsite:

http://www.howardsclubh.com/

2.) If they're not playing at Howard's then I ask if they're playing Headliner's in Toledo. (http://www.headlinerstoledo.com/)

3.) Some bigger acts come to the Toledo Sports Arena (http://www.toledosportsarena.com/ (broken link))

4.) This was just by pure chance. I was using a scrap piece of paper from a local record store (Finders Records & Tapes, great indie record store) and it has some street team's ad on the back. Apparently, there are a few local bands over there in Tiffin that were at a place called "The Possom Lodge." I have no idea where it's at or what it's all about, but maybe if you find it and ask around there might be some local stuff going on. Here were two of the acts playing that night:

http://www.myspace.com/dorisdiaz
http://www.myspace.com/gripshifter

Maybe that's "The Possom Lodge's" format. I'm not sure.

Sports:

1.) SU? Is that the 'Cuse? Anyways, there are a few sports bars in Findlay (I'm not sure what Tiffin has to offer). One being Buffalo Wild Wings on Co. Rd. 236 north of 224 West (where you'd be coming into town).

2.) Fricker's off St. Rt. 12 west and I-75.

3.) Ralphie's Sports Bar up on Broad Ave. right off Trenton, but that's usually low on people when I stop by.

I'm sure if you ask, they'd turn at least one of the TVs on to the SU game for you. They've got quite a number of them anyway.

Films:

Ok, I'm sure there's a theater in Tiffin, but I go to the Carmike ones in Findlay. There's one in the mall which shows older release movies for reduced prices and then there's the 12 theater which has the current stuff. That's over past I-75, north of 224/Trenton Ave. on Co. Rd. 300 (or Northridge Ln).

As for the indie, cult classic type movies, you may have to go to a video store or get IFC from Direct TV. I'm sure you'd rather go out to see them, alas since the Cla-zel in BG shut down, there's nothing I can recommend. Some of my friends talked of creating an IFC-esque theater in Findlay, but nothing ever happened. I don't think the area has that kind of demand.

Any of this help?

WOW Art. Thank you so much. I guess you know the happenings around here. Yeah, I really like the IFC films quite a bit. That's too bad your friends never got around to doing that. That would be a pretty fun project from the sounds of it. I do need something to do. So far, it's been quite drab, just work, work, and more work. So far, just been in town about 2 1/2 weeks. I think I'm going to go check out the tat parlor here or in Fremont, because I know how to get there at least. Got any ideas regarding a good one in this area? Thanks so much for all of the info. I spent all day yesterday trying to find that book "Heart Shaped Box" by Joe Hill (Stephen King's son) and it's nowhere to be found, so I have to order it from the college up here, (Heidelberg or something or another)?

Default No problemo.

Glad to be of service.

The 'Berg would seem the best bookstore in Tiffin. That doesn't surprise me. I will not make any bones about it, Northwest Ohio (NWO) is a place where you have to make you own fun sometimes. Don't get me wrong, it's there, but not like the East Coast where everything's at your fingertips. That's one common dig the area gets.

I don't have any ink myself, but have heard really good reviews about "On the Edge Tattoo Studio" in BG. I found this review site with it in its database.

There's also an artist in Findlay that I've heard good things about. Here's his myspace link:

Now, granted this is just by the grapevine. I cannot give a personal review on them. I'm sure if you talk to them you'd be able to feel them out.

Hey Art. Thanks a lot for helping a stranger!! I know, I don't have any ink either, but thought about it. I checked out your links and the one in Findlay looks pretty good. Undecided still. Promised my sister I would get one when I got here since she has like six and she's only 20 and I'm 29, but I might pass out since a lot of hers bled like hell and bruised like crazy. Maybe I'll just get one of those out of the machines at the grocery store, lot cheaper too, but surely not as classy since I wasn't looking for Scooby-Doo. You doing anything fun for Easter?

Hey, I do a good amount of traveling, and know the value of honest, local information. I try to help people out when I can.

That tattoo parlor is on Sandusky and is near that record store I told you about. If you like CDs & whatnot, just head to Main St. and take a right and walk about four storefronts north and you'll run into it. It's got a decent sized used section. There's also a great deli to the south a bit. It's called Elaine's on Main (or the Main Street Deli). If you want burgers, there's a small hamburger joint about half a block south of that called Wilson's. Coincidentally there's nice little wine & beer store across Hardin St. from Wilson's called the Wine Merchant. I usually picked up my imports and microbrews from there. The coffee house downtown (Coffee Amici http://www.coffeeamici.com/) has a pretty decent cup of joe and live music on Friday and Saturday nights after 8:00pm. If you take a look at the acts, however, you'll notice they're more acoustical than anything.

Easter will probably be the same this year: church and then a meal. I've been out visiting my extended family on the east coast for a number of weeks, so it'll be good to see my immediate family again.

Hey Art. Hope you had an nice Easter. I'm definitely going to check out those places. Went to the Madison Street Tavern the other night. Had a really good band there, but wasn't too impressed with the people who dwell there. Pretty territorial over nothing if you ask me. Must be small town mentality or something, which I'm not used to. Was wondering if you want to meet for coffee or something this week if you're back from the east coast. Let me know what's good for you if you do. Talk to you later.

Wish I could have warned you before the move, this town sucks, I came from WNY myself 4 years ago.
