Default Can anyone give me some advise please ....

My family, and I are looking into moving to Ohio in about 2-3 years and we are starting our research early. We have a 10 week old daughter and schooling is goign to be very important to us. As far as carreers go I am a chef / cater and my wife does ]administrative office work. So a little help with the job oppertunities would be great. Like I said moving would be in about 2-3 years unless one of us finds a job sooner. Please give your input it would be greatly appreaciated. We would like to live near a major city with at most an hour to an hour and a half commute to jobs. Medium size towns are mainly what we are looking for.

Thanks

Paul

Well, it's a little hard to give you any specific advice unless you tell us a bit more about the type of environment you'd like to be in...everything. Weather? (It does vary from north to south. ) Cultural amenities? Close to major-league sports venues? Conservative or more liberal? Want to be near a college? Want lakes around you? Want hills? Want to go hiking a lot in nearby state parks?

We crave info!

From the limited amount you've told us, based on administrative jobs and the restaurant profession, my first thought would be the Columbus vicinity or Cincinnati region. But Columbus and Cincinnati in and of themselves are quite large, and contain many smaller communities within their metro regions. So do you want a medium sized city that is its own unique area?

Where abouts are you looking to move to, or that you want to move to? There are lots of communities around the northern area that offer loads for the family. But the bigs question is, "are you willing to put-up with the winters up this way". I'm not going to jump into the political garb when it come to cities and where they are, but North Royalton offers alot as far as jobs, stores, good housing, realestate, and good proximity to major roads and high-ways.

sorry but north royalton would not be a suburb i would recommend unless you like a more rural/suburban feel. taxes are very high, and alot of the streets have no sidewalks. access to freeways are difficult compared to most other burbs too. howerver, i would suggest metro cleveland/N.E.Ohio.

I would say of any city in Ohio, Cleveland has gained the best reputation for its dining scene.

I would like to suggest London, Ohio, specifically Choctaw Lake area. You can find a nice sized home from the $150's to homes ranging upward to half a Million or more. Lake is big enough to water ski on, and is a very community oriented area. My relatives lived there for about ten years but got transfered to the Carolinas and really hated to leave. Go to realtor.com and type in zipcode 43140. Choctaw Lake is about 5 miles NW of London, and is easily accessed to Interstate 70 to take you to either Columbus, Dayton, or even Indianapolis, IN.

I am a teacher in the Cleveland area, so I am somewhat familiar with the schools - also, I have been working in the restaurant business for quite awhile on the side, so I know a little about that, as well! Cleveland and Columbus are the two cities that I am most familiar with, as I have lived in both. Cinci is a great city, as well, but I don't know as much about that area. If I had to choose between Cleveland and Columbus, I would choose Columbus. The downtown area/Ohio State campus area are both being improved drastically. I am sure that you could find a job somewhere around there. In terms of good schools, I would have to say Dublin, New Albany, or Worthington. Worthington is cute little town with a coffee shop, restaurant, and shops just north of the city. Dublin has a high school that reminds me of a country club. New Albany is situated right on the river, and I think that it is a beautiful area all together.

If you moved to the Cleveland area, Orange schools and Beachwood schools are probably the best. I teach around Akron - don't move there! I have a nice job, but don't think the opportunities are the best here. Kent State University is a cool little area, but it is a smaller town that is about 35-45 minutes away from downtown Cleveland.

Best of luck with your move!
