If you are going to quote me keep it to the current thread as not to make me look too bad! lol I have lived in Ohio my entire life, and I do love the state. With out knowing which thread you pulled the "it's nasty here" Ohio does have some very nasty places, and people. That being said we also have some of the most beautiful places I have ever seen coupled with very genuine people. I could list multiple nice, and nasty. Just a few. At times we do have very hot, nasty, humid, weather. I also believe we ( I will speak of columbus as I do not claim to know your area) some very nasty places in Columbus. The south end is home to some very dirty polluting company's. Ie Buckeye Casting, Trash Plant, glue plant, and run down empty buildings stretching as far as S High to West Broad st. The west Side is over run with Illegal's, and drugs was once considered a gem. The School System is average at best in most (not all) Columbus suburbs. I love the seasons that Ohio has to offer. I also agree that we have a superior road system compared to most states. Great access to medical care.We have excellent university's, and are never more than two hours away from amazing country side. While Cleveland may be a thriving clean place to call home Franklin County is a far cry from what it was even three years ago. Maybe I just held Ohio to a higher standard, and I am discouraged seeing our major cities once a foothold in our national economy falling victim to outsourcing, downsizing, and people not just caring or turning a blind eye. That being said I would probably never move. I am sorry if any of you are offended I just state things the way I see them. with all of the ooh's and ahhs in Ohio we have more than our fair share of oh my's. Nothing wrong pointing that out to someone contemplating a move from another country.

And yes When we visited Maine that August 74 temp, and the beautiful unmatched coast line etc compared to 98, and high pollution at home yeah it's nasty here, and I doubt would have any problem finding people to agree. In that post I also talked about the loss of DHL to Southwest Ohio, and yes that area is still suffering today! We still haven't moved from Ohio probably never will, but Maine is an amazing place to visit and I plan on having a summer cottage their soon. What I have said isn't a dig on our State. We have had some elected officials that may not have had our best interests at heart lately. Remember "Ohio the heart of it all" I do and I used to feel that way.

That is why I believe I said "that August." Which when I phoned my parents in Columbus that specific day it was 98 with a higher heat index, while I was enjoying a nice cool 70 degree day in coastal Maine. While I don't claim to know the average daily heat index for August in Ohio I am sure many will admit Central Ohio in August can be brutal for weeks on end. But I am sure you will have another smart comment for that too. But you may live in the place that never has the hazy, hot, humid days.

I didn't think my memory served me wrong, and since I like to speak about facts. Esp Cinici being over 100 five days. I am sure many remember this August. I also believe Southern Ohio had some flooding at the end of the month. I didn't claim all August's to be brutal, but that one was. And yes I did feel fortunate to be on the Atlantic Coast.
U.S. Temperature Highlights for Summer
For summer 2007 (June-August), the average temperature for the continental U.S., based on preliminary data, was 73.8°F (23.2°C), which was 1.7°F (1.0°C) above the 20th century mean and the sixth warmest summer since national records began in 1895.
This was the warmest summer for Utah and Nevada and one of the ten warmest summers on record for 11 other states. Alaska had its fourth warmest summer on record. Only Texas and Oklahoma were cooler than average.
The much warmer than average conditions in the Southeast and throughout the West contributed to above average residential energy demand for the nation. Using the Residential Energy Demand Temperature Index (REDTI - an index developed at NOAA to relate energy usage to climate), the nation's residential energy demand was approximately 8 percent higher than what would have occurred under average climate conditions for the season.
U.S. Temperature Highlights for August
For the contiguous U.S., the average temperature for August was 75.4°F (24.1°C), which was 2.7°F (1.5°C) above the 20th century mean and the 2nd warmest August on record, based on preliminary data.
A severe heatwave persisted throughout much of the month across southern and central parts of the nation. More than 30 all-time high temperature records were tied or broken and more than 2000 new daily high temperature records were established.
Raleigh-Durham, NC equaled its all-time high of 105°F on the August 21, and Columbia, SC had 14 days in August with temperatures over 100°F, which broke the record of 12 set in 1900. Cincinnati, OH reached 100°F five days during August, a new record for the city.
The warmest August in the 113-year record occurred in eight eastern states (West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, the Carolinas, Georgia, Alabama, and Florida) along with Utah. For the Southeast, the length, severity and area of the heat wave led to comparisons with events in 1983 and 1954.

I didn't say I didn't believe you. I just presented a personal anecdote of my own.
By do I feel like I'm acting like Chef Boyardee today. Is it time to go home yet?

I do admit Ohio summers can be a b***h sometimes. Not always, but there have been times when it's lingered in the 90's for days on end. Throw in the typical humidity of the eastern U.S. and it's downright oppressive. I hate it.

Yes, but just like those winter grays, the bad weather days make our beautiful days (low 70's, sunny and breezy--like what I'm experiencing right now) that much better.

I'm sneaky like that.
I just didn't think it was a fair characterization of the state. Parts of Ohio are certainly "nasty," but there are some real beautiful parts, too.
By the way, when someone quotes another person, just click on the little blue box with the white arrow next to their name and it will take you right to the thread from where their post came.
