Hahaha! What a hoot. Ol' Bob was the perfect poster-boy for politicians that are dimwitted, incompetent and corrupt. Amazing he actually occupied the Governor's Mansion for 8 yrs!

Yes, I think that's a big part of it! People want to come to S/SE Ohio because it's a pleasant place to be. It's beautiful and relaxing; a wonderful getaway from the stress, congestion, soul-less sprawl, and everything else that sucks about cities.
So keeping the rural—even remote—character of Ohio's Appalachia is definitely important to maintain its appeal as a tourist destination.
Also, I think it'd be good to capitalize on the economic infrastructure that's already there, especially small-scale manufacturing. This is particularly true of industries historically associated with particular towns: Zanesville = pottery. Lancaster = glass. Chillicothe = paper.
In a way, even that's part of the charm in SE Ohio. For example, pottery fans from all over the world are known to visit Z'ville, just to check out its offerings at the manufacturers' retail outlets.

Yes, I'd like to see SE Ohio capitalize on it's natural beauty! Maybe become more tourism-oriented. (But no more water parks for awhile, please )

Can't blame me for that. I always voted for the other guy. I'd have voted for Mickey Mouse if he were the only alternative to Taft ...

I don't know what you're talking about - LOL - * clearing away Fiesta* There's actually several pottery collectors' swaps meetings that take place in Zanesville, Roseville, etc., I think in June; and another that takes place in East Liverpool, where the Museum of Ceramics is, every year. But the general public is very unaware that the pottery/stoneware industry even existed in eastern Ohio, let alone that it still does. Hmmm, maybe I should hire myself out as a PR consultant ...

Sabina is a nice little town, it is located in the middle of it all. With an hour or less drive to Columbus, Cincinnati, and Dayton. Sabina is located in Clinton County, Wilmington is only 10 miles west and Washington C.H. is only 10 miles to the east. Sabina has employment opportunities. New Sabina Industries employes over 520 people, and Pennent Moldings has over 250 jobs. Abx Air and DHL airhub is located in Wilmington and employes well over 9,000 people. THe area has its rural charm with the Big City conviences located less than an hour. Clinton county is one of Ohios fastest growing counties. The population of Sabina is about 2,900. There are several possible sub-divisions planned in the near future and there are several old historic homes for sale. Its in the East Clinton School Dist., which supports some 1,800 students. Sabina Elementary has close to 450 kids grades k-5. Its a nice town to grow up in, and there is excellent Police and FIre Coverage and no crime. I'd try out Sabina over any other town in Clinton County.

Hehe...one of the first calls I made when I began inquiring about Zanesville (besides getting on this forum here!) was the Zanesville-Muskingum Co. Chamber of Commerce. They were very helpful!
I can't imagine anyone not associating that area with pottery & ceramics, but then I grew up just a couple counties over...
If I understand correctly, there's also a broader-based chamber/tourism bureau for Ohio's Appalachia region in general.
Might be some good opportunities for ya

For those interested, here is a link for a place I own in SE Ohio that I'm selling. Monroe County, about an hour north of Marietta:
Cabela's -- Trophy Properties, LLC
Please contact the realtor noted on the listing if you'd like to see the place. Great deer hunting, plenty of room for a garden, and two outbuildings (16'x12' yard barn and 24'x32' garage) included. Cheap taxes, 91+ acres, and plenty of room to add on.

As for southern and southeast Ohio, in my book this is a little slice of God's country! I love S/SE Ohio, but then I can't help being a tad biased
Marietta is another county seat on the Ohio River with a surprisingly strong economy for this region, and it's absolutely loaded with charm—both historic and natural beauty.
