Default Steubenville takes a step forward...

The news I've been waiting for has finally happened. The City of Steubenville sold the Belleview Golf Course and the Green Strip to Franciscan University. Steubenville's fate rests in the University's hands as well as with Pittsburgh further expansion west along Route 22. The golf course was sold at $2 million and the green strip was sold for another $710,000. That's $2,710,000 that the City of Steubenville didn't have. Selling those pieces of land allows the University to expand its operations and bring more students to the school. The City of Steubenville will benefit from this largely. Also, the news coming from Weirton, WV is that a new Wal-Mart Super Center is being proposed off of the Three Springs Dr. exit off of Route 22. This will attract more people to look into the Steubenville/Weirton metro area to relocate. The City of Steubenville should use that money to help update the downtown area, and get it out of it's gloomy state. The population of Steubenville has surprisingly grown in the last 2 years, mostly because of people commuting to Pittsburgh. Steubenville's school system is being updated drastically and will attract those looking into Steubenville for a nice school system for their children. I'm excited to see what Steubenville looks like 10 years from now, and how the University has helped this city get it's feet back on the ground.
