I have been one to complain about Ohio, especially the punitive tax policies that have encouraged businesses to relocate, however, I am steadfast and adamant on fighting this 50% budget cut to the state of Ohio's library system. Our library system is indeed an equalizing factor in the socioeconomic variable.

Our local library website has a full page on names and numbers to contact by phone, e-mail, or snail mail; I'm sure that all the libraries do. If anyone wants, I will post the contact information if I'm allowed to do so.

I refuse to let the GOOD things of our state go to pot, while the degenerates who do not take the time to educate and uplift themselves, in spite of resources that are thrown their way, continue to pilfer our state's resources. Sometimes, the good guys have to win. This is one of those times.
Great post! Rep points for you.

I agree 110%. Govenor Strickland is really loosing support, and I will be right there along with everyone else that is seeing his true ways. Just a few months ago I was glad to have a govenor like Strickland to lead us through this recession, but now I think he is catching up to the ranks of Taft.

When will Ohio ever get a good govenor? Strickland has done nothing to bring in revenue, jobs, or positive change. Get him out in the next election! He has done nothing but cut state services, and we have lost how many fortune 500 companies because of him? I know the nation's economy sucks, but I mean come on!

Now one of the best and most extensive library systems in the country is facing something like this? Crazy!!!

Excellent post.

It's heartening to see so many people who are supportive of their libraries and also aware of how really excellent the Ohio library systems are.

I'll come clean to say the reason I am on the Ohio Forum at the moment is because I was just on the verge of applying for the position of director of the library in Port Clinton.

I still plan to put in for the job, but hearing about this cut worries me.

I've been in the library field for almost 10 years now. I have always hoped to work in Ohio. In a way, Ohio has been Ground Zero for so many library developments.

I'm in upstate New York at the moment, in a small blue-collar town and our state is going through some similar problems (as are many others.)

The state planned on passing a massive cut to libraries over and above cuts it had already made. We lobbied long and hard and got the cuts reduced by more than 50% of what they intended, but it's still going to cause some difficulty.

At any rate, I would be very happy and proud to come to the Buckeye State and have high hopes regarding this position. Wish me luck and maybe I'll get to talk to all of you from inside your borders soon.

Port Clinton is a great town. Right on the lake, close to Cedar Point and the Kelly Islands out on Lake Erie. Great state parks nearby.

I wish you luck with the job, and don't worry, it will probaly work out. Just keep up the faith. These possible cuts might not even affect your job. You never know.

Once again, if you do move, good luck!
