Default Why Ohio?

I thought this might be a cool idea for a thread.

Okay, so why should anyone live in Ohio? What's great about living here? What do we have that others don't? Why should others move here?

Anyways, I have my own thoughts already, but I'll post them later. I am just interested to hear yours!!!!!

I'll have to think about this a little. I really don't know what Ohio has that other states don't. I have visited other states, but have lived in Ohio my entire life. I've never really had any desire to live anywhere else. I guess I'm just comfortable here.

Being from PA, I can tell you both states have a lot in common, and these two states are very underrated in my opinion. Low cost of living, great cities, diverse, great people, etc.

Ohio has so much to offer. And to tell you the truth, I love that fact that Ohio is underrated.

As much as I hate the overcast that we tend to have for more than half the year, we are certainly an underrated state. The cost of living is great, people are extremely frendly (I was visiting NYC a few weeks ago, so I can't tell you how much I now appreciate that fact), the economy is certainly not as bad as the other states, and we get to see the 4 seasons.

I think what I love the most about ohio is the fact that you can pretty much live in whatever environment you want to - you will always find your niche. If you're into big cities, you've got Cleveland, Cincy,Columbus, etc... You're into small places? athens, newark, etc... you're into rural places and want to live in the middle of nowhere? you'll find plenty of that.

I should be going to bed, but I'll add some more later on

Off the top of my head ...

Room to breathe, even in the cities. Some days I feel like I'm suffocating here in Philadelphia. I never felt that way living in Cincinnati, Dayton or Cleveland.

Reasonable cost of living. Relatively inexpensive housing.

Lake Erie.

Great posts!!! Now I'll add my little bit I had to say:

The great thing about Ohio is that we really have it all!

With great urban cities, a plains feel in the western portins of the state, a piece of the beautiful "north shore", a bit of appalacia in the southeast, a very large amish population, amazing amusement parks, stunning history, and good connections to other states, there really isn't anything you CAN'T have if you live or travel here.

That's what I love about Ohio. (trust me, I could keep going to the point of pure annoyance, but I'm kind of tired and busy so I'll just leave it at this)

As an Erie County native, I rarely ever experienced boredom in the summertime (the tourist attractions aren't just for out-of-towners ). There was always something to do or somewhere to go. As for the wintertime....a short 50 minute drive up to Cleveland (or a 90 minute drive down to Columbus) for the cultural attractions is time well spent.

I grew up in Ohio and lived there for 25 years. While living there I didn't mind it and had little real desire to move.

Then I got a job offer and moved. Let's just say that once I left I can't ever imagine going back. One's perspective is quite different once you get out. Honestly, it has very little to offer compared to other places in this country. I do miss Lake Erie...but when I can see the ocean from my bedroom, the brown, rip rap shoreline of Erie doesn't seem so nice anymore. The best decision I've ever made in life was to leave Ohio.

It is cheap to live there, sure that's a plus....but there is a reason for that.

Can you be more descriptive? What are we missing out on?

I am also an Erie County native who has relocated to the Akron area for a job. Lake Erie offers SO MUCH for us in the summertime! Yes, it can get dreary in the winter, but it does pay off with the low cost of living here. I have a friend from California come and visit recently. When I showed him the lake up by Cedar Point, he said, "That's not a lake, that's an ocean! It looks just like Monterey Bay!" Sounded odd, someone comparing something like the California coast, but I guess we do have it pretty nice here!
